Hallo from Germany

Hi, my name is Jan and I´m from Bremen,Germany.

I bought a 67´ Cutlass last January, and i was wrenching the last months on it... mostly dissasembly thing and finding the bad spots.

It has an 330 2bbl (9:1) engine and the 2-Speed Jetaway.
The car is in "ok" condition so far, its very straigh, drives surprisingly good despite suspention and steering is really worn out..... 10 feet paint job, i suspect a good amount of bondo in the body and it has some ugly looking weld jobs..

So far its good enough for me.. and it was cheap..
I hope i could build a nice "muscle car" out of it.. i already have a SBO 350 und th 350 in my shop.

Then why do you want to put a belly-button motor in it?

I realize that Oldsmobile motors and parts are not exactly plentiful in Germany, but resist the temptation to hit the car with a Chevy stick if at all possible. The 330 has a forged crank and is a great basis for a performance motor. The Junkaway trans, not so much. A TH350 is nearly a bolt-in swap, however.

Welcome to the group... Very sharp looking Cutlass... However, if you really want to go "muscle car" (as you stated), shop around for a 400/425/455... The 350 is a good alternative if that is what your limited choices/availability are being in Germany...

One nice feature of the small block Olds is that every single one ever made used the same 3.385" stroke. That means that the forged crank from the 330 drops into an Olds 350 (yeah, you'd want to rebalance it).

Yes i have an Olds SB sitting around.. i bought it 2 months ago on ebay... for 92 Euros ($100) !!!
Yep this stuff is so rare, nobody cares and bid on it. Its a 68-70 block and #5 heads. Sadly it not in the best shape. i bought it dissasembled... all top rings are broken, the crankshaft journals have deep ridges. The previous owner drove it till he has no oil pressure and it starts smoking like hell.. he pulled it out of a 78 Chevy truck! it was a replacement engine for a broken Olds Diesel.. back in the day!

I extremly hard to find a Olds big block here.. they ususally go over 1000 Euros for a used engine in unknown condition.
Im really happy now with my two Small blocks

Yeah...over here everything is a "Muscle car" if its from the US and it has an V8 under the hood. The definition is not so strict... these cars are all "exotic imports" here.
I´ll put some "go fast" goodies on it, take care its not embarrassing slow and plays a good tune from the exhaust tips.

I usually wrench on my buddys 67´Opel Commodore GS... they really have the same style back then... the Olds is my first classic car....that drives, too

All 350 blocks from 68-76 were the 395558 2 casting number. Since yours has #5 heads, it may be a 68 or 69 engine as those were used in both years. It doesn't really matter since it needs rebuilding.

Maybe i keep the 330 if i got away with new bearings, re-hone, re-ring job on the shortblock... the engine still pulls very strong. It has 120-130 psi on all cylinders and 40- 30 psi oil pressure (with very thin oil),
bottom end looks very good nothing loose i pulled two mains = not much wear in the bearings... but it filled with oil sludge in the valley and the heads.. i´ll measure everything... and we´ll see..

Btw.. excellent forum.. lots of infos and experience here!

My grandpap, Otto, was 100% German. I never could eat the pickled pigs feet though. Sauerkraut I'm okay with, but I draw the line at the pigs feet.

Welcome. My grandfather on my dad's side was German, his parents migrated here in 1890, to Wisconsin of course.
