Hello! Acquired 1984 Oldsmobile Toronado

Hello,
New to these forums and this type of car.

Found this forum by google searching some issues I found with the car after getting it running and giving it a good drive.

Its a 1984 Oldsmobile Toronado, Bought by a friend of the family new, Has 24,000 original km's. Yes Im from Canada so its km's.

It has the 5.0 307, and other than that Im not too sure as Ive just really started trying to figure out this car.

Hope to learn from these forums, and put up any issues I learn/ find out about as it might help someone else in the future.

Russ

Fixed.

My father had an '81 Toronado, same color. Here's a photo of it taken back in 1983.

Welcome aboard Russ. Nice Toro. What part of BC are you located?

Thank you for that. I have more pictures but I think I will wait until I'm on my laptop.

I like the colour. I really like the look of the car too. I remember going for rides for ice cream when I was younger.

Let's try this again. I typed a reply, timed out, and lost it.

Thanks Allan.

I am located in Vancouver.

My parents got the car from the family friend in 2008, and it followed them to Vancouver Island. It's sat ever since making the trip over.
I got it running these past few days and took it for a good 1/4 tank run on the highway.

It is still on Vancouver Island. As I currently have three vehicles at home, one insured. That's not including my wife's vehicle. I still haven't told her.

Easy way to fix that from happening again. When you log in, check the 'remember me' box. Then the site won't time out on you. Just remember to sign out when you're done.

I have family on the Island, in Nanaimo and Ladysmith. Maybe I'll see it on the island highway sometime.

Yikes! Hope she has a good sense of humor! I bet the ferry rides over the years have added up to more than the value of the car?

Thank you for the welcome!

Now I just have to find the time to get to this project. It's such a joy to drive!

She is used to me with projects. She just shook her head when I told her.. Oh by the way Helen, we have a new classic car. She knew of the car as I talked to my parents about it a few times. She's just happy it's not in our yard. Yet.

I have family all over the island. My parents are north of Nanaimo in Qualicum Bay, and my brother moved to Nanaimo a year ago. So there's a good chance you might see it.

The cost of the ferry is definitely a hindrance. This trip I left my truck at home and took a charter bus with my two kids (left the wife at home) across. While I saved a bit, with a 2 and 5 year old with luggage.. I won't be doing that again. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the hint with the login.
