I am about 11 months into the restoration of my 70 Olds Cutlass S. All numbers are matching except for the carberator, which came off a 71 Toronado, best I can tell.

This has been alot of fun as a weekend project for most of the year. I am at the point where I would like to fire the engine for the frist time since re-installation. The transmission was rebuilt also along with the carb. You can see my pictures to get an idea of my status. I can tell that someone else has made an attempt to restore the car before I got it. The body paint is bad with little to no prep work done. Some rust blistering through. As I am keeping on a budget the paint and body work will be after I pay the gov't there share of my hard earned $$ in April. I can only hope the spend it wisely.

I'm sure many of you experienced rebuilders can guess what problems arise when you are trying to follw up behind some one elses work. I was suprised when I was cleaning the head light bezels, which are stainless steel, and found that someone actually painted over the stainless with silver paint. A lot of polishing - I got them cleand up back to original. Anyway, some of my new challenges are electrical wiring and needing some other minor parts which are hard to locate. These include: 1. spark plug wires (for elec ign), 2. Oil Dip Stick Tube, 3. Window Washer Bottle. Any assistance or advise is welcomed and greatly appreciated.

The Ms. and I went out to the Zone Show spoonored by the TX Chapter of OCA last month and met some great people who share the same passion as I do. I look forward to hearing from and meeting many of you in the future. Best to all.

As far as being already taken, the word Cutlass in various forms has certainly been used before. No one has ever combined it with "Tony" until now.

I got the timming set and the wiring done today. I first primed the oil pump then fired the engine. What a relief, for sure. I went around the block and tested the steering and brakes. Ilike it and it feels good. Maybe need some new shocks.

Oil presure at 40psi at 1500rpm and 25psi at idle, Vac at 18Hg. Eninge temp is just under 200 F. I might change out the thermostat to a lower temp. Any suggesttions?

I didn't throttled up to full throttle on this first break-in test.

Thanks so much for all the support and kind words. You all have some nice cars. I can only hope that I get mine in as good-a condition someday.

I'll go ahead and pick up a 160F thermostat. Still needing that darn dip stick tube. didn't care so much for the oil drippin on the starter and left side headers.

no burnt oil doesn't smell good and it makes a mess.Your car looks quite nice.I look at it this way all cars are projects even the trailor queens get tinkered with.I think it should be fairly easy to get a new dipstick as cutlasses are a more commen car and are quite popular.

The P/N for the dip stick tube was 401357, apparently changed to
417091, and the dip stick (gauge) is 10110440. These should still be available from a Gm dealer.

Thanks for the part numbers dc2x4drvr, you must have one of those parts books or service manuals. Every time I try to bid on one through ebay I get out bid at the last minute. I did email that Millions and Trillions guy on Saturday. He emiled me back with a phone# and message of “we got your parts in stock”, Oh yea. Frank, I think. He was a little short with me on the phone. He said that it will be $175.00 because he has to take the part out of an engine, “In stock” for sure. I did find one on YearOne but unsure from a pic as for the fit up. But with those part numbers I will check with my local Mr. Goodwrench dealer. I also saw the window washer bottle for $26 at YearOne.

The millions and trillions guy is a ripoff and the only millions is the money he makes off guys looking for NOS parts. I just got an aftermarket one for my Olds for around 25 bucks.

X2 on that I bought and found alot of my parts on ebay and on here.I am planning on contacting fusick for a few things but still avoid the millions or billions and trillions guy like the plage.That krook isn't worth the time.

I found another great source for Olds/GM parts. I called my local Mr. Goodwrench parts counter with the number that dc2x4drvr gave me for the dip stick tube. The Parts guy said that this is an old number and all of their old inventory has been bought by Vintage Parts and that I need to contact them directly. Go to http://www.vpartsinc.com/index.php and enter a GM/Olds/AC Delco part number and it will search the VP Inventory for the part. As it turned out they have 84 Dip Stick tubes in stock (priced at less than $16). These are all original GM parts. You have to register and use CC for on-line orders. They don’t take phone orders unless you’re a dealer. And there are no pictures so an accurate part number is important. So I hope the number that dc2x4drvr is accurate. I could also use the part number for the Window Washer Bottle if any one has it.

404915 for the jar, 3798372 for the cap. From what I have seen these things are pretty tough to find NOS your best bet is probably a repop. Nice car you have there, there is just something about a 70 Cutlass S .

What you got there? Is that a 442, Cutlass or a Rallye? I relly like the 70 Olds too? Over the years I have owned a 70 Cutlass, 94 Cutlss Ciera, 01 Omega, 98 Bravada and now a 70 Cutlass S again.

I am got a ninvite from a frieind of mine to go to the Barrett Jackson in Scostdale in January. I was checking the listing of cars and saw a 70 Rallye in the line up. Should be a good time, never been before.

Barrett Jackson should be fun. I also have a 70 Cutlass S, I added the w-31 intake and OAI setup. I had a bunch of parts hanging around the garage gathering dust and figured I might as well stick them on something.
