Ordered the correct oil tube sticker, plus ordered new center cap logo's, the original ones were very faded.

Wow what a difference those new center caps make. I hope to see that car driving down the street one day as I live in the 45013 as well. The cleanliness of that car is amazing. I am hoping to score me a 72 really soon.

Looking forward to more pictures

Pretty cool thing just happened. About 3 weeks ago I got a wild hair up my *** to look at the warranty info in the glove box and try to find the original owner and info on the car, so I googled his name and a number came up and I called it. I left a message and nobody ever called back. Low and behold an hour ago I got a call from this fellow, he said he was in the hospital for the last 3 weeks. He said he and his brother both ordered 442's with only 2 weeks left in the year to order them. He ordered my gold dualgate while his brother ordered a bronze 4speed car. He said the car was in his family for all these years until the guy I bought it from purchased it. He said his son restored the car 18 years ago. He even told me he had the original trunk lid and some other parts and paint if I wanted them. He said he might even have paperwork like the original bill of sale too. He lives like 80 miles north so I told him I would bring the car up to him and take him for a ride and get all of his extras once the weather breaks. Just thought I would share a pretty cool story.

The power of Google! All hail the internet!

Very cool! Original owners are hard to dig up (without using a shovel), especially with cars over 40 years old like that.

And there we have it. Hope you get everything you need.

Also may want to ask him also if he just happens to have any pictures when he had the car and try to get copies.

That's certainly good news for a '72 W-29 owner. Did he say why the original trunklid never made it back to your car or why he still had it? Interesting.

he said it got damaged and when his son did the restoration the put a replacement on. hard to believe he kept a damaged trunk for so long. at the end of our conversation I asked him so you really ordered the car ac delete and he said absolutely. I thought it was really neat how it stayed in the family for 40 years and in the same little town to boot. next time i chat with him i will ask about the bronze 4speed. I couldn't imagine walking into a showroom with my brother and both special ordering the same car with both of the 2 best options. I bet that was a great day. really made my day talking with him.

AC was always an option - not a standard feature for 'deletion'.

Tried to contact the original owner a couple weeks ago with no luck. So last Thursday I drove an hour and a half to try to find him. Google does wonders. Just my luck there was a sign on his shop saying closed on vacation till Sunday. So I left him a hand written letter in his mailbox and he called me back this morning. I'm planning on taking the trip back up after work tomorrow. He said he has a bunch of parts he has been hording for the last 41 years from the car that I can have. He said he has the original trunk lid and all the original emblems, plus dash parts and the passenger door that his son replace when restored 19 years ago. He said he even has the poverty caps from when he bought it new. He said that he would sell me the keystone classics with poly tires still on them, plus a set of chrome olds wheels he said he has from the car. Crazy how he still has this **** sitting around for 40 plus years. His shop looks older than the car with the original push button cash register. Should be fun to hear more stories.

Take some pics of his shop while you are there, and it's great that he is giving the parts for it, and I would definitely get the polyglas if the price is right.

Well I made the 140 mile round trip to meet the original owner. He was a quiet man, but seemed to enjoy our visit. He hasn't came across any pic's or documents yet. He did load the back of my truck with some of the original parts of the car that is very cool. The infamous deck lid, plus the original whole dash, plus some brand new 442 emblems and hood lockdown setup. There was a box of misc stuff that included the original rear speaker grills and the front speaker, plus a bunch of other small stuff like cig lighters ect. He included some metal trim, and the 2 front 442 grills and headlight bezels. Here is some pic's. The pic of the building behind my truck is his shop. He built the shop in 1974. He also said his brother rebought his bronze 442 and restored it. They are having a car show July 20th so I plan on seeing his 442.H e also gave me they original polyglas spare tire that has never hit the ground. All in all a great day.

re: the rallye pac. Most of the 72's produced after Jan of 72 did have the dash pad "fasten seat belts" pod as a result of legislation. But it often took the factory a while to implement some of the changes. So this car not having that pod doesn't strike me as being wrong; and I've been corrected on this point too. It could very well have been ordered with the U21 option and installed much the same as it would be in previous years. Hardly a deal breaker - it only adds to the car IMO.
I met the original owner of the car today and he gave me the original dash. It is the rally pack dash with the warning light in the center.

finally: the 442 numerals. We know the owner put them on himself because he said he did. Any changes he wants to make are his call. Most of us that know 442's will see the piercing error, but its not worth getting worked up about. It's a very nice looking car and I'd bet it's fun as He** to drive!

Great pics on the album BTW. Engine bay looks spotless. Any chance you can get a good pic of the cowl tag? Your pics are nice and clear so that will make it easy to read.

Nice ride! I am also partial to the color combo as I owned a similar color scheme in the 90s. I would have probably kept the T/A as well though. That's just how I am.

Thats a boss ride man, I love that year of Cutlass especially the 442 and if I ever get one thats pretty much exactly how I'd want it to look. Also thats a hell of a lot cooler than a 79 Trans Am. even if it has significantly less "mullet points".

You are the man I would like to talk to. I'm actually going between getting a 79 T/A or a 71-72 Cutlass. Can I get your opinion on the two and why you went with the Olds?

actually just had a wild hair up my *** and saw an online ad and traded title for title 2 days later. the t/a is more sporty and flashy plus handled better, but no rear seat room. less than 10,000 442's were produced in 72, while almost 120,000 t/a's were made in 79 which makes the olds way more rare. I really like the bold muscle car look of the olds, plus all the leg room. when I take it to shows it gets quite a bit more attention than my t/a did. all in all I never looked back and love the olds. really hard to find a person that doesn't like 442's. both are great cars, just very different. just happened that they were both the same color combo.

Wow. That's crazy that we have such similar tastes in cars. My first olds was a '72 S and around the same time I had a '79 TA (black on tan). The '70 442 is currently in my garage while my DD is this S10. Nice ride!
