Newbie with a question

Howdy all, another newbie here. I recently acquired a '72 Cutlass S for my wife. She had one when we first got married 30+ years ago, but we traded it in on something "new". Dumb move! Her's had the louvered hood and the one I just purchased doesn't. She really wants the louvers, so my question is, can the hood be cut to install the louvers or is it better to get a hood that already has them? I just finished , dare I say here, a Mopar restoration and I learned a lot from one of the Mopar forums so I am hoping to learn as much or more from this site.

Thanks,

Robert

I would get the correct hood with or with out the louvers installed. the louvers can be bought off ebay or a member may have a set collecting dust. would not be easy modifying the hood you have and make it look original but any thing can be done.

The louvers are not functional, just two pieces of pot metal chrome plated to look nice. My '71 Cutlass S had them and I agree that they do look nice on a Cutlass. X2 on the idea bout just getting the whole hood complete. Welcome to CO.

Thanks for the help. I guess I will begin the search for the correct hood.

It's not just a cut hole, there's a formed lip on the hole that the louvers sit on.

Robert: WELCOME TO CO! Yep, I immediately thought that you would be much better off just getting the whole hood/w/the louvers, especially due to the "lip" Joe P mentioned. Same thing on the extra '68 hood (in process) for the Silver Bullet. Must finish that, and soon! Good luck!
