questions on a TPI engine swap should I???
So I can get a 88 Camaro with a Tuned Port 350 overdrive trans for wheel disc brakes the whole car for $300.00 it was hit in the right front so its a parts car. Heres what Im wondering. How hard is it to wire the Tuned Port injection and all the computer junk into my 66 cutlass? Will the four wheel disc brakes work? The rear end is a coil sprung unit with a posi I think its a 10 bolt can I use it?? I think the front brakes would work with different ball joints? What do you guys think I mean $300.00 bucks for everything?? I currently have a decent running High compression 330 with a 2 speed switch pitch glide..... Anyone done this swap??

Only the IROC had the 350 , so if it's not an IROC-Z it's a 305.

Me personally, I don't think the engine swap is desirable.
I'd pass. IIRC those weren't very popular motors, and they were pretty weak.
230hp / 330ft lbs if it really is the 350. My first car was almost a 1986 z28.
But the brakes might be worth it if you can find the brackets for the rear.

No no no and did I mention no.
Tuned port swap screams I was built in 1991 and I am now so out of style its not funny. The only thing a TPI belongs in this day in age is the Corvette or 3rd gen they came out of. Brakes are not a swap, rear is not a swap pretty much worthless unless you are buying to fix the car or part out. If you are dead set on a EFI motor swap LT1 or Gen 3 motor is a 1000X better direction to go.
PS if you insist on installing the TPI you have to at least install tweed interior and paint all the car chrome and all one pastel color. Then you can tell everyone it a barn find parked since 1988

LMFAO.......+1.
Gen III or Gen IV is the best right now. Anything from the 5.3L up to the 6.2L LSX engines.
But there's guys upgrading from their retrofitted LT1 setups and selling VERY cheap if you want EFI.
Here's a member's build thread you might be interested in.

With gas going back to over $4 a gallon very shortly here, ALOT more people are going to be
upset they can't afford to drive their classics as much unfortunately......it's happening all over again.

It is an okay swap for a cruiser, and not to bad on gas mileage. However, lacks HP.
I put a '91 TPI from a corvette in a toyota pickup with 12 inches of lift and 40 inch tires. that engine had the aluminum heads and a little more HP that F body TPI. I absolutly loved it, and yes it would smoke the 40 inch cepek tires.

i wouldnt do the tpi. a tpi is a good torque motor 5500rpm is it. and they are picky on the heads and cam. i would do the lt1 or ls1. and the rear end is a ten bolt 7.5/7.5625 and are really really weak. You might be able to do something with the disk brakes. it would probably be easier and cheaper just to buy disk brakes then figure out what u have to do and piece them together.

lol ok I guess Ill pass it was the 350ci IROC Z. After thinking about it I realized my 330 has more HP so I guess Ill finda a turbo 350 or a 2004r. So I can drive it. While I wait to find a LSX motor propoably the 5.3...

I'm putting an '87 305 TPI and 700-R4 tranny into my '80 Cutlass. But... the Cutlass came without an engine or tranny, and I had the 305 TPI and 700-R4 sitting around. IF you are looking to do a swap, I'd wait for an LS series engine. I understand that you can pick up the iron versions from late model GM trucks for a decent price from salvage yards. I heard $800, but I haven't looked myself yet.

You just need to ask someone who knows what they're doing before you buy.
