Well as of 1965 it did. See Joe's post #22 in the thread below.
https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...eakers-161156/

I realize he said "when they started", but given that 442 meant 4 barrel 4 speed dual exhaust for only 1 year (1964) I wouldn't be too hard on the guy. In fact, I would be willing to bet if he had said 4 barrel 4 speed dual exhaust was the meaning without a breakdown by year, there would still be guys on here jumping all over him for not knowing that one of the 4's did not stand for 4 speed after 1964. By the way, by 1990 442 meant 4 cylinder 4 valves per cylinder dual camshafts.

He said it was special order Rally Red ? Is that correct ?

He also said it was his Orange Pumkin which is the same as Carousel Red & Hugger Orange ...

Carousel Red, Hugger Orange and Monaco Orange are all PPG paint code 2084.

?

Rally Red was one of four special order colors for 1970. It is not the same paint code as Hugger Orange.

Hugger Orange is GM paint code WA3959. Cowl tag paint code was 72. The only time that was used by Olds was 1976 Red Orange. PPG code 2084, DuPont 5021LM
Rally Red did not have a GM "WA" paint code according to the PIM. Cowl tag paint code was 73. PPG code 2235, DuPont 927-99659.

I’d cut the guy a break he was talking to the general public.

I would be happy to cut the guy a break, but he also added to the confusion over the numbers. He said, "I think everyone's come up with their own variation of those numbers." No. That is not correct. As much time as they spent discussing it, it would have been easy to just lay it out correctly, especially if you ignore the later Quad 4-4-2s. It would not have been hard to say, "It is not confusing at all. In 1964 it meant 4 barrel carburetor, 4 speed transmission and dual exhaust. In 1965, they changed it to 400 cubic inch engine, 4 barrel carburetor and dual exhaust." You wouldn't even have to go into the "why" of the change. It is not like the name is some kind of mystery shrouded in a legend. It is clearly documented in the advertisements.

I know that when you get a camera in your face, your brain and mouth sometimes do funny things, but if you are trying to sell a bunch of authentic cars, you should go out of your way to show that you know what you are talking about.

In the interview, he said there were three colors. Of course, it was four as Joe posted above. My car is Sebring Yellow which is the same as the Rallye 350. In my observation, Sebring Yellow and Rally Red were the two most popular of the four.

Hell I will give him plenty of slack. How many so called Olds fans think it is the size of the motor? How many 72 321's are out there??

Yeah, Joe's a good guy and knowledgeable about what he has.

Only problem is, based on this conversation, a lot of newly minted "experts" will take it as gospel, spread it as such, and then argue with people who know the facts.

"Thet Osemobile gawt a four hunnert 'n' forty-two cubic inch motor! I heard it on one-a them big car auctions on the tv! Thet means ma rusty piece-a sh*t out in the field is worth a hunnert thousand dollars just like them Bert Jackson cars! An' I ain't takin' a dime less'n thet!"

Hm. Maybe ignorance really is bliss.🙂

Here's the green '71 W-30 when I brought it home after buying it for $2500. I did dismantled the car to restore it then decided to do my '69 H/O instead and sold it to Joe in pieces.

Somebody asked me one time if my car had the 442 in it.

I said, "Yes, three of them"
