Variable Displacement Compressor

Can you make a VDC work with an aftermarket system?

If you want to modify the AC on your Oldsmobile to work with modern parts and refrigerant here are a few options.

Just depends on how it is controlled. There were some in the 80's and 90's that actually used the suction pressure to regulate displacement - higher pressure = higher displacement, and leveling out the swash plate around 25ish psi, making it automatic. I'm idly digging through catalogs looking for one in a useful mount, but all of them have been pad mounts so far. Most of them use a solenoid, so you have to build a control system for the solenoid. Or figure out how to max it out and just lock it.
No aftermarket system that I've seen will directly control a compressor displacement solenoid.
