1988 Cutlass GT #185
I just purchased a 1988 Cutlass GT and it is in rough condition in need of pretty much everything. I have alot to do before paint but I am just tossing this out there. I want to get the car back to original condition due to its rarity. I know some of you guys dismiss this model but its here, I have it...and love it. It came the same color as the typical 442 or hurst models that marron brown color on top with silver underneathe. I am pretty sure I will just keep the same stock color but, Ive always been fond of the old Black Cherry paint. You know looks black at night, dark maroon in light. See my thinking is it is the same color...just a better one??...Spending all the money I will for a great paintjob...part of me wants to improve if I may say...lol...any input would help...thanx guys ,I will keep all rest the same, same pinstriping and lettering and silver under.

Looks like a solid project.
Good luck with it. I never knew there was such
a car as a Cutlass GT. Does that stand for Grand Touring?
Is it a bucket seat console car? Interested to know how
many were produced.

My 1st car was a G body 1983 Cutlass...I had 3 more after that one and didnt know about the Gt until I saw the ad on CL for this car. It was a specialized option for north Carolina dealers only...it is basically a cutlass supreme classic with the reg 307 4 barrell v8...some differences are the pinstripe and decals, a specialized hood scoop, a specialized wing, bucket seats with console, gauges on the dash and a numbered brass plaque. 400 were supposed to be produced but the series flopped and only 240-280 or so were done. Do not know what GT stands for...still doing research to find out actual info...alot of guessing going on since these guys are soo rare.

Way more than 5 known. There are more than that still in Greensboro area of NC.
Little more to it than that, Junior There was a lot of difference in that batch order. Rocker moulding and emblem delete, trailering package (for rear gearing/ transmission and ECM program), different exhaust are just a few of the non-obvious differences.
Most were black or charcoal gray but they were made in several other colors. I've seen several in dark blue and there was at least one produced in that dark claret color- I think it was one of the later cars where a dealer had an in-stock CSC converted because it was too late to order one under the special equipment batch. T&T said they had a hell of a time with those because they had the CSC roof emblems (batch cars did not) and when they removed them for the conversion the emblem left a shadow in the paint which was sometimes impossible to get out.

Id like to have a beer with you and pick your brain Raider. I am very unknowledgeable about this car as I just found out that it existed less than a week ago. Most people have never seen one or even heard of one and I was answering the questions best I could with the info I have been given. I have ordered the original invoice and trying to get brochures or other info to better understand what it is I have. I will be talking to TnT monday about missing parts and info from them. You said roof emblems ,,this car has been scuffed for paint i guess...cannot tell if there were emblems there. Did the Gt have duals behind each tire like the 442??

Raider what do you think of my question about paint...is this car rare enough to keep original. Or do you think I can make small tweeks to make it my own and not hurt the value??
