1970 Olds 442 W-30 SPEED WARNING SPEEDOMETER Cutlass W-31 Pace Car
Oldsmobile U15 option for the 1970 "A" body cars. Ultra rare floor shift speed warning speedometer. You can set the small yellow needle to any speed between 25 and 120 MPH. When that speed is reached, a buzzer will sound. Nice clean used condition. Easy installation. Speedometer works fine, odometer works fine, the buzzer relay works fine. $650.00 plus shipping. PM me if interested. SOLD___THANK YOU___

These speed minder speedometers are rare enough on column shift cars, and are even less frequently found on floor shifted cars. If somebody is trying to load up their W30 with every gee whiz gadget the factory offered then this would be their opportunity. I have never seen a floor shifted example for sale myself. I could located a dozen standard floor shifted speedometers before I go to bed tonight. The seller may not find a buyer on this forum, but the price asked is what it is worth to him. If not interested, respectfully pass.

I asked this question a few years back, and I think we determined that it was 70-only.
Has anyone found one in a 71-72,and original to that car?
They are dated in the back, for more proof, and the 71-72 would have a blue high beam light, whereas the 70 has a red light. Both of mine came from 70's.

I find the U15 Safety Sentinel offered '67-'70.

I've seen one on a first generation Camaro, I'm thinking it was 68 but might have been a 69. It is an option that I'd like to have for my 69, but it seems they are far between. - Steven

Not trying to sound like an idiot, but what is the point of this device? Don't get me wrong, i think it is cool as hell, and if I had the money I'd love to have a buzzer tell me when I hit 120 - especially if its a well preserved example of OE. But there has to be some other reason besides reminding you that you are going too fast. it's not like they had radar speed monitors in '70 (or maybe they did - i was only 2 years old...) necessitating an alarm to tell you when you'd exceeded the speed limit - and what, you didn't know you were doing 100 mph!?! anyway, sweet speedo and GLWS

Here in the number of U15s that made into A-bodies in 1970 through June. (Next to the last column is the totals by series.) So the total A-body inclusion was approx 7200 units or roughly 2-1/2 %.

Actually, it is floor shift and 3 speed column shift that would get that type.
That report won't tell combinations of options, so that cannot be determined. There were about 10,000 total manual shift A-bodies.
A whopping 95% of the total A-bodies had automatic trans. 20% of the total had consoles. But we don't know how many autos had consoles, and the 20% that had consoles includes both manual and auto. Based on those figures, though, an educated guess says 20% of the U15s or approx 1450 were this type U15 speedometer.

It's easy to pick-up speed unintentionally and the buzzer let you know when you had done it. Now people simply set the cruise control at five or ten over the limit and take their foot off of the foot feed.

Good luck finding one for that price. It's his to sell and he named his price - you don't have to buy it but your assessment is dead wrong. If you can find a bunch of these U15 speedos on ebay for your price, buy them all and sell them on your own thread.

I would like to point out to the worthy gentlemen in the discussion that the U15 Safety Sentinel was indeed offered in 67, however, due to the geometry of the 66/67 dash, the gear selector indicator was a separate rectangular bezel in between the left gauge pod (speedo) and right gauge pod (gauges/lights). The gear selector was at the bottom of the level of the pods, and your fuel gauge was at the top. Point being, 67 U15 was transmission independent for that year.
I acquired mine a while back for a good deal; there is a 67 one on ebay now for months at 800 or so. Option U21 in 67 was the Rocket Rallye Pac, and option U22, not in all literature, but in the 67 assembly manual, was both U15 and U21.

What other info is in the chart you provided? I think I understand the last three columns... total unit of series built through June, number of units with U15, and percentage of units with U15. What information is in the 3 columns after body series? Am I correct in assuming production for model year ran mid Aug - mid July?
Thanks BeenThere for being patient as we hijack your thread.

The first of three number is not the total number of the series, but the total number of the series that could get that particular option. So if an option for only available on a convertible, say, the series total would only show the convertible numbers.
A significant distinction that allows more specific information to be gleaned from the figures.
Attached is the whole page for clarification.
