63 Starfire Heater Water Valve

I need a new or rebuilt heater valve for my Starfire with A/C, this is the valve that screws into the top of the right cylinder head. It has a vacuum diaphragm on it and the heater hose attaches to it. Mine still works but it has a small leak which I'm sure it will decide to get worse one of these days! Any leads or advice would be appreciated.

Have you checked ebay they are on there often, well at least the later 60s and early 70s are, many of them are the same.

I've done this to an earlier 394- I bought just a generic one for I think a 307 that was available over the counter at a NAPA. Then I just bought a brass fitting ( female/ male) that screws into the cylinder head and was able to screw the new valve in place. Some of the prices are insane for new valves

USApartssupply.com has them.. You have to send your old one in as a core. I am not sure if they sell new ones. They are pretty expensive though.

Thanks for the responses. Fusick told me that the one I have is a one-year only part (naturally!) that is hard to find. I asked about the substitution of a generic one from a later model but they had no recommendations. I'm pretty sure it works on both vacuum and thermostatic control so the replacement has to match those functions. If I can't find the actual valve I was hoping someone else had done this same conversion and could tell me exactly what they used. As far as getting the old one rebuilt, Old Air also does that but I was hoping for a less expensive alternative. If worst comes to worst I will bypass the heater core and remove the valve to get it redone.

Yep, I know what you mean. If you can find something cheaper that you are happy with go for it!! If we all owned chevys, most of our parts woes would be taken care of lol

Hello,
I have a NOS HEATER TEMPERATURE CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY that might help you. It is part number 575097 and is listed in the Oldsmobile parts catalog as fitting all 1958 to 1963 Olds models except F-85. I shouldn't question Fusick's years of experience about it being a one-year part, but I can't disregard the parts catalog information. If you are interested in more info about it, feel free to PM or email me. Thanks,
Winter Lane
