Rear End

Rear End
I have a 1980 Cutlass Supreme Brougham and I am looking for a bolt in POSI rear end.... Unfortunately I am not looking to spend an extreme amount of money. My original rear end went and I want to replace but with a bit better than it has...

If you have a mild small block and stock size tires, you can get away with a stock 7.5" rear; however, if you've got some torque and big or sticky tires, be prepared to spend some $$ for an 8.5". Been there, broke that!

I have upgraded to a 350; so I think that's what broke it...

I ran a bone stock '73 350 in my '85 Cutlass Supreme and bracket raced it every weekend, with a 7.5" 3.07 posi, with no issues. When we went to the Division Finals in Gainesville, I borrowed a set of sticky bias ply tires and the rear end broke the following weekend. .

94-98 Mustang 8.8 disc brake axle. Buy my bolt-in kit, weld on the spring perches. Go Racing.
Most came with a 2.73, 3.08, or 3.27.
Would cost a little more than a 7.5 but at least there's no chance of breaking it.

Thanks guys . Now one thing that caught my eye , well all this did , but all the talk of ford and f150 . My father in law passed away a few months ago and in the back yard i have his 97 2wd f150 lariat . Is this the f150 rear end im looking for ?

Read it again. There's no talk of an F150 in this "Parts Wanted" ad. There is a mention of the Ford 8.8 out of a Mustang. And that still isn't a bolt-in.

I'm going to guess you had a 2:29 rear in the car originally. You might be able to find a 2:73 posi from a 79 Hurst Olds or something in along that line. This is a good highway cruising rear axle, I'm at about 2400-2500 rpms at 65 mph. Your 350 could handle that quite nicely I would think. And you won't get murdered at the gas pump.

Used to be - one could find a "take out" Monte Carlo SS ('83-'88) rear end fairly inexpensively. 3.73 gears and a bolt in. But still 7.5 inch and C clips unfortunetly. I saw one at the west El Paso pick a part just last year. That would have been roughly $159 with core, tax, and enviromental fee.
