1987 442 Code 34 check engine light
So the other day, I was putting a few miles on the 87, and all of the sudden the check engine light comes on and the car starts to run a little rough. Pulled out the handy paper clip and found a code 34. Consulted the almighty chassis service manual to read what I could read and see what I could see.
As it turns out, those of you that are in the know, there are a several miles of vacuum lines under the hood on one of these, and with my luck I had a hole in one of them! Thankfully, I found it, and rectified the situation. Light went out, and car idles fine now!
Just thought I would throw this out there, for anyone else that may have had or might have this issue in the future. Thirty two year old vacuum lines could be a problem! Who would have thought!! LOL.

You found it in all that mess. That's pretty good. Or lucky. I had a huge vacuum leak one time on my 85 442. It ran stupid rough and throwing codes and what not. I look under the hood and the evap canister TVS popped it's lid (it's fused/glued to the top of the TVS) and the guts came out of it. Big hole. Not fun. But it was basically on the passenger side front of the engine where it wasn't fun getting to. Vacuum leaks aren't good for any engine, but worse if it's a computer controlled car.
