Hi guys, anyone built they own 2 piece timing cover from a existing.

Know that stolpa sells these covers, ask my self why not cut my used in half and go on.... ?

I have one that is cut from a original cover. Never used it.

I made one off stock cover. Bent a little piece of sheet metal into roughly a soft "z" channel & tacked it onto upper half. Acts as sort of a canopy over the joint + forms a trough/dam to help retain bead of RTV. Doesn't leak & have no plans to use it, just a MAW that has been transferred from engine to engine.

I tig welded an 1/8" strip on the lower half, split the bolt holes in half. Using grey silicone it has no leaks.

Really cool guys, is it important to split the cover directly at the bolt holes.

I have made them by cutting across the upper 3/8" bolt holes, seal with RTV. Has worked for 44 years. No flap, no complicated stuff.

if you do your 2 piece right
you can keep water pump bolted to the up segment
