Cranks; I know I’m opening a can of worms but…..

Hey Guys,

As most of you know I have been offering a 4.00” Billet Stroker crank for both 350 gas blocks as well as DX’s for a few years now. Average selling price was approx $2100.00. They’ve done well but I’m always striving to make things better.
So now I’m working on being able to offer a FORGED 4.00” stroke gas block crank with all the same features as the original billets but for a more competitive sale price of around $1200.00. Any interest? I believe this revision makes more sense than the original billets. I’ll still offer the billets for the D/DX blocks as those blocks make better use the stronger crank. However gas blocks are less durable, so a more appropriated strength crank makes more sense in my opinion
Let me know your thoughts and level of interest if you would please.
Thanks.

This would be a great addition to our limited choices. A product like that has been long overdue for all Olds engines. What material would be used?

Cranks

Sounds great. Would you be open to producing bearing spacers too?

I would like to know what an entire bottom end would run, crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearings. I assume for 4.090 or 4.10 bore?

I like it!

I'm still curious about the 68-72 350 gas block failure point. Can't say I've seen one blown up.

I'm looking at a rebuild of my 350 within a year or two and one of your stroker "kits" is definitely in the plan. My goals are not outrageous, so saving a nice chunk of change on the crank would be very welcome and perfect timing.

Yeah, that sounds really nice. What power levels do you think the 4" stroke forged can take? As said, figure out a new package price.

Olds 307, I can not see any downside to offering a better then OEM product at a large reduction from the cost of a Billet piece. I would say you need to find out what a "run" for forged cranks would cost for a number of cranks. So for simple math, lets say it's 500 a crank, min 10 cranks. Then reach out to a few builders and offer these first runs at "cost" to get there feedback. Guys like Dale, BOTH marks, Travato etc. Once in there hands and experience you can get HONEST input from a 3rd party and needs/wants to help finalize the end product for production.

When we did our own LS casting, we had Brodix cast a head to our specs and we used them on a number of customers engines. They bought them at a largely reduced cost as they were unproven at the time.

Probably not, at least at this time. I still have three billet DX cranks available.
Material will most likely be 5140, which is still stronger than the stock 1050 Steel 330 cranks.
Even at that the crank will outlast the block. I just finished a 428 Stroker small block that made 570/555. I’d say the gas block can take 600-650, depending on rotating assembly and rpm.

As long as the machine work is good out of the box, I'd say that's a winner...

I'm in. For that price I'd pick one up and start collecting parts for a stroker.

Also curious, will the weight be similar to the current billet crank? Another cost factor will be, how much Mallory it will take to internal balance with LS rods and commonly available pistons?

It should actually be lighter than the current billet, which was about 56#’s.
Original billets were configured with a bobweight of approx 1900gr so you’d never really have to add any weight. We always had to drill them as a typical bobweight was around 1750. Moving forward the Forged cranks will be configured for approx 1800gr.

Excellent. Internally balancing a 330 crank up here, pretty much pays for that forged stroker crank. Similar price to a 50 year old forged crank, cut and internally balanced plus lighter, stronger and more cubic inches, how can you lose?

I think you've got a winner. Big cube small blocks are the way to go. With aluminum heads & intake there would be a significant weight savings to complement the extra power.

I would be much more interested in this option for my #'s 70 350 in my red wagon, its already fresh 030" over stock rebuild working great but like the thought of the Gen 2 Edelbrocks on that block at about 428 CID

Having a crank frozen and nitrided should more then enough for a 350 block

I have a brand new one. I had it hydro dipped in carbon fiber. It was cheap. If you need one, I’d sell it $850

I think it's more about getting an extra half inch of stroke and having SBC rod journals. If I recall, the 330 crank is only good to 3.5" without going to a Honda rod journal.

Thank you for the interest and commitment.

But it’s already moving forward. I hope to see a sample crank in the next month or two. If that’s to spec then they’ll do a batch of approx 20 shafts. Interest had been good so far so, as I had to do on the billets, I’ll bite the bullet and pay for the batch right away in order to move forward.

Nick Jeffries broke his gas block I think it was main web cracks, but it has been a long time ago, maybe someone will be along that remembers better than I !?
He was at 380 ci and 600 HP, strip only car.

Excellent work Mark, you are to be commended !!

This crank could also build a great 440ci or larger BBO with splayed 4 bolt caps and spacers , with AL rods you could spin it as hard as a SBO.
I'm betting that Peyton could build spacers for someone.

I may have a hybrid DX block and BTR 4-bolt caps and spacers to sell soon which would work great with one of these cranks, (if I can get the pics up).
