Well it happened

Clicked off an 11.49 with a 1.54 60 ft. @ 113.60 mph . Those who know ., know this is just a pump gas iron headed .030 350 olds. This was its final send off. Time to pull it out and freshen it up. The last engine i built was at the peak of covid. and when i freshen this engine up well there is a high possibility of an overbore and new rods. Are the SBO rods still available ( cutlassEFI) i need an excuse to go to florida this is your call lol. and at that point i would do 4.100 piston that I believe he also offers and a solid roller cam. The master cylinder head guru cutlassfreak who did my heads will be doing bigger valves and a little more port work. The back up engine will be going in over the next week and then hitting the track to see how that does and thats a 355 ported J headed engine with a solid engle cam and RPM intake., Should be fun to see what it does. Its been a while but i been bracket racing the car alot but im still pushing forward with the low buck sbo stuff i normally do.

here is a link to my youtube . more of a vlog but there is an in car video there., but you can go back and see the back up engine and prior runs ??? if you care to.

Great Copper! I alway enjoy your threads. Bigger valves and a little more port work, always works wonders! Have cutlassfreak go full out on the porting. I am sure you will not be sorry. What size intakes valves? 2.07

Did I see right? You went to RPM to 7200 - 7300?

Yes it clipped 7300 ish . I set the shift light to 6700 but today since I was after E/T I was shifting by feel and ear and would shift when I would feel the RPM start to want to plateau and it would hit at that rpm.

SBO can have great torque and HP. Up in that range with the right combo. I go to 6500 sometimes, but have no arp hardware. Other than head bolts.
I keep thinking a D or DX block, would be in your future. .

The short block has ARP rod, main and head bolts. No studs on this engine.

Congratulations! Yeah, the Mahle pistons in 4.100" are available along with the Molnar rods. They are a 10cc dish in a 4032 material. Mahle recommends .0035" piston to wall for racing applications, an extra .0010" of clearance.

If the motor is in good condition it might make economic sense to leave it together. Or leave the short block together. Particularly if you intend to go with a larger bore and aftermarket rods. Pick up a good core that only has grocery getter miles on it. Maybe you already have one. Maybe offset a 330 crank? Or skip the cost of the solid roller and do a 4" stroke short block solid flat tappet. Not sure if that would mesh better with your gears and converter. Solid roller costs add up quick. Just a thought. Good luck.

We will see how well the internals look but for as hard as I have ran the car at minimum it needs rods lol. It's got over 200 passes and 3k street miles all of them hard. I'm sure the stock rods are ready for retirement

As Christian said, 4.100 Mahles are available.
As far as rods go you have 2 choices, Scat or Molnar. The Scats are in stock but aren’t centered like an Olds, but they’re still a cut above stock, and lighter.
The Molnars are better out of the box but won’t be available for another 6 weeks or so according to Tom Molnar.
Hope this helps.

I probably won't be digging into this engine for a few more weeks. I'm in no rush I'd prefer the Molnar rod. Shoot me a price for the pistons and rods . I know prices have probably gone up since we spoke

I think you should look at the converter, seems like a lot of slip in high gear, you might be quicker than you think. But then again when I look at the numbers they make sense, I've just never seen a 10 inch converter get it done. What was your 330 foot?

Congrats on a new PB. Great to see it getting done with a gas smallblock, the most underutilized platform with a lot of potential.

That's been my mission. To prove the SBO is just as capable and more durable.
