Crane was the only company that had off the shelf cams years ago that I can recall. Not a big deal to have someone grind it.

@chadman had one for sale a while ago. Don't know if he's still sitting on it.

I still have it but it's a big solid roller. Not a mild cam as I believe he is looking for. Bullet will grind 45 degree cams.

Sorry, what is 45 deg cam need for? I believe my block is a 1970 455, but seen on Summit a waterpump is for 1971 and later 455??? Are the waterpump and 45 deg cam for something specific???

Thanks, John

I'm not 100% on the blocks, but the early ones- 330 and 425s have a 45⁰ lifter angle requiring a cam ground to fit. Most later Olds are 39⁰.

1964,65,66 330 motors are 45 degree cam; 1967 330 motors are 39 degree. 1966 and 1967 400 motors, 1966 and 1967 Toronado motors and all 1967 425 motors are 39 degree cam; other 1965 and 1966 425 motors are 45 degree as well as 1965 400 motors. All 1968 and newer motors regardless of displacement are 39 degree. Regarding water pumps there are at least 3 different water pump lengths used throughout the years and models and one specific with the inlet on opposite side used only on 1964 330 motor.

You can also talk to Mark Remmel (cutlassefi). He had one in stock that fit my application when I was building my 425. You never know what he'll have laying around. He'll also be able to get one ground for you if he doesn't have one laying around.

The 45 degree cam has been explained above.

For water pumps, the 1970-older engines had larger hose nipples on the water pump and radiator lower hose. The size of the those fittings changed in 1971 to a smaller diameter. So if you buy a newer water pump for an older engine, you need an adapter to get the lower radiator hose to fit.

Then as noted, there were three different snout lengths for the different applications (AC, non-AC, and I don't remember the third).

Why do you think you need a 45 degree cam ? Do you have an "E" block 400 ?

66 400

Hi. Yes, it's the 1966 E 400 in my 66 442. It's bone stock, but I want to upgrade cam now, since I have it out, and resealing it. I want a modern cam that will work well with the tri carbs, 4 speed and 3.90 gears.

you know, that's what I thought. But then I was reading another post on here that I actually replied to I think, that said they're 45s and all the other ones are 39. I thought they were backwards but I wasn't sure. It's been too long. This is only my second one. I had a 67 in high school.

Most available aftermarket cams are for 39 degree. Good idea to see what Mark suggests, though. He knows these engines well.

I don't find them usually. I mostly find the standard common 45 bank angle cams for the 455, 350, 403 and some 425s

I didn't think the 350, 403 and 455 engines ever came with 45 degree cam bank angle.

so confusing. Well, I have the 66 E engine 400, but also a 425 and a 455. The 425 does not have the dimple
drill mark up front,, making it the same bank angle as the 455 I believe?

Only if it's a '67 or a Toronado motor.
