350 Cam Recomendation

I am trying to select a cam for the 350 that is going into my car. It is a 355ci with #6 heads and 9.0:1 compression. The valves are 1.995 Intake and 1.562 Exhaust. I have a Edlebrock Performer RPM #7111 intake, a Holley 650 and headers on the shelf. Plan on purchasing Comp Cams adjustable rocker arm set as well.

The car is a stock convertible around 3500 Lb. curb weight, it has 275-60-15 tires (28" high) and a 350TH automatic. I will purchase a stall converter to match the cam and still do not have gears but thoughts right now are 3.42.

I want something that has a noticeable idle (preferably does not require machine work on the heads for the springs), is streetable but can still have fun between stoplights.

The Comp 268H seems to be a bit mild, read some less than favorable things about the Edlebrock 7112. The 194H from Comp states that it is a factory grind. Anyone have experience with any of these? Any other suggestions.

I'm taking for granted the heads are stock? If so an Erson TQ40, 220/228 at .050 on a 110, .504 lift, works great with a stock style valvetrain. Or I can grind you something as well.

Otherwise if you have stock heads stay away from the fast ramp stuff, you don't need it, you have enough compression and the cast iron heads could use the off the seat time the fast ramp stuff doesn't have.

All the generic stuff isn't any better i.e. Edelbrock, Howard, Lunati Bracket Master, they're lazy and made for the masses.

Jmo.

Yep, #6 cast iron heads. What are the spring requirements for the TQ40 and any concern with a .504 lift and my valvetrain?

Very similar to your car, mildly ported heads,

Smooth idle, you are not going to be able to go very big with a 9 to 1 355 in a heavy car, IMO.

also, FWIW

No none whatsoever. And you only need a spring with 110# or so on the seat and 275-300 open, all doable with a stock type valvetrain. That's what they're designed for. Or if you aren't quite sure of your compression ratio then we can tighten up the cam a bit, maybe a 217/224 on a 108, lift is .494/.504, your call.

CaptJim - I agree with you to some extent. But when you close up the lobe sep you can still retain good low end even with a bit more duration.

captjim - Thanks for the feedback. Our engines are very similar and they are good number from your Engle. I still would like to have a little lope at idle but food for thought. How did the RPM do at the track compared to the numbers you gave with the Performer?

cutlassefi - I have been through the numbers a couple times and feel confident that this is a 9:1 engine. PM me the cost for the TQ40 and lifters.
