Air Cleaner to fit with HEI Dist.

Hello All,

I recently converted from points to an HEI and, as I thought, the factory air cleaner doesn't not fit as the HEI has an inch larger radius. I ordered a 14" diameter basic air cleaner and it fits but now the accelerator pump lever on the quadrajet carb will contact the air cleaner base pan when the pump is depressed almost completely. Anyone have this similar setup and know of an air cleaner that will fit a bit better? I see the Edlebrock chrome air cleaners everywhere but I'd prefer one without any embossed lettering.

Thank you!

One idea is to locate an air cleaner from a 1975 Oldsmobile, where HEI and 4bbl was standard equipment. I'm thinking the base is really what you need. The lid should be fine.

Also, its possible to modify your current base by some cutting/welding and re fitting in the area of obstruction.

Thank you both! I'd rather not cut up the oem cleaner despite the better looks and I was not aware of the variety of spacers!

They sell them at your local parts store and all over the internet. Just check the ID and height measurements needed.

The rare off-set units, 75-76. I have one if interested. Comes with a new filter too.

Thanks for the option but I have already found a spacer on my lunch break at work.
