Charcoal Canister Leaking Fuel?

Having what looks like a slime of fuel leaking out the carb hose of my charcoal canister. Could this be due to the canister going bad and plugged with vapors? Also, I have the original cas cap on the car and does not look like it is sealing properly. No other leaks at this time. New rebuilt 350 rocket with new stock fuel pump.

Any help is appreciated!

There is not supposed to be any liquid going into that can. It now needs replacing but something else is wrong to have the liquid going into it...
Check for proper hose routing, particularly at the rear of the car underneath at the vapor separator, here:

Gas is being sucked where only vapor should be.

How many lines are on your fuel pump, 2 or 3?

Charcoal Canister Leaking Fuel?

Two lines on the fuel pump. All hoses in by the gas tank are routed properly as they have not been changed. Had work done on my car recently where the shop routed the hose going from the carb nipple on the carbon canister to the side of my 1406 Edelbrock carb above the electric choke to properly route the hose. It was previously connected to the back of the carb incorrectly. This may have been clogging the canister. now that I have the proper vacuum to the carb nipple of the canister, it is possible I am sucking out old gook?

Also, it did not smell like raw fuel. It was rather a slimey liquid that evaporated quickly. This being said, it most closely resembles fuel.

Put a new carbon canister on today. The old one was twice as heavy as the new one. Also, got a new gas cap. So far, so good. Perhaps the carb nipple was plugged?

What you could do is to add in an 8" section of clear hose to the hose that goes to the tank, and form it so any raw gas could be seen in it. Run it for a while (esp after getting a full tank of gas) and if you see no gas, remove it and call it done. There's no telling what could have caused that.

Excellent suggestion. I'll report back with my findings. We will find out what was going on, one way or another. I also hear the fuel/vapor separator can be an issue that can cause this to happen.

Hello All,

Wanted to report that my carbon canister is working just fine. Seems like the old one just got filled up with grime over the years. Never occurred to me these could go bad.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated.

In a car's 40 year life, many unskilled people could have worked on them. It is possible someone crossed hoses and filled your can with gas, then realized it was wrong and hooked it up right.
As for now, glad it is working right!
