Oil pressure light

Good morning all. The oil pressure light in my 70 CS recently came on, in spite of having no shortage of engine oil. In running through the possible scenarios, is it likely that the sending switch is faulty and/or that the oil pump is in need of replacement? The question gives this away, but I'm not particularly handy under the hood and want to be prepared when I bring the car into my local mechanic (central NJ).
Many thanks.

You need to plumb in a mechanical guage to verify what pressures are!
30-45 psi @1500 rpm this can vary on tightness of engine and weight of oil. Pat

Also check your oil for fuel contamination due to a failed fuel pump.

Verify pressure or lack thereof with a mechanical gage in the port at the front of the engine, just to the left of the block ID, fwd of the intake, and aft of the timing cover. Remove the op sending unit [1-1/16" socket?] and install 1/8 NPT fittings to your gage.

I can haz oil pressure = replace the sender

I can haz no oil pressure = dig into the engine. Probably nylon timing teeth and/or strings of silicone in the oil pump pickup, but other things may also cause this. Drop the oil pan first, or go ahead and step into Mightaswell City and pull the motor.....
