Short Water Pump Cross-Fit Autozone

So thought I should run this through the group before I make my order. I have a 1971 Cutlass w/a 350, no AC, no OAI. Current water pump casting is 408328 which gives a shaft length of 5.09" from a thread on Oldsmobility ->http://www.oldsmobility.com/oldsmo/v....php?f=6&t=391

I've ordered 2 different pumps from autozone prior to reading about the different shaft lengths on classicOlds.com. I could go to summit or a whoever and buy an overpriced water pump or try to stick with Autozone for the lifetime warranty and price.

In looking at Oldsmobility's thread, the 68-70 non-AC pump should be the same length and if my understanding is right, there isn't any reason a pump for a 68-70 350 wouldn't fit on my 71 just fine, or at least with how autozone categorizes their pumps by make and model.

So assuming what autozone categorizes as a 68-70 Olds 350 pump is the right length, it should work right?

Just looking for any thoughts, I've read through a millions posts about this but haven't seen anything related to my specific question.

Thanks guys!

I think the difference in the pumps are not the length, but they changed the size of the radiator hose from 70 to 71. They are a different size at the pump as well as at the radiator.
