66 Toro aiming headlights

Wouldn't want to run the battery down, the vac pump sounds like a good idea. What would happen if you were out on the road and the lights wouldn't raise? Is there some kind of emergency method to keep them up?

I wouldguess there is a way idk it though i have an a body and the lights stay open all the time 
.
but to aim them i do turn on the lights and either leave the car running, or have my tools and a plan and just turn on the lights and aim them which typically wont take long assuming they are somewhat close tostart with.
