I'm starting my adventure with Toronado 1966 so I don't have much knowledge. This year models used 7026250 - unfortunately difficult to buy. I read that Toro 66 users use later carburettors, for example 7028251. What changes should be made to make the engine work properly? Or if not 7028251 which carburetor is best to buy.
By the way, I am interested in buying.

The 1966 Qjets were the first year of use and had some problematic one-year-only features like the inlet valve and the fuel-damped secondary air valves. These were changed on the 1967-later carbs. I would think that only a 1967 version would bolt on without requiring other changes. The later (1968-up) have differences in the choke, inlet fitting, and throttle arm that will require mods to the car. Do you have a correct 1966 carb now? Unless it's broken, your best bet is to either rebuild it yourself or have it correctly rebuilt by someone who has a clue. Buying a generic rebuilt from a mainstream auto parts store or site is a good way to get a one-size-fits-none frankencarb.

Two vendors who specialize in Qjets are Cliff Ruggles and Sean Murphy of SMI Induction. Either can competently advise and configure a Quadrajet for you.

I recommend the later 170-series which began in about ‘75 since they feature a center fuel inlet which I believe is safer that the passenger side inlet and come in the large 800 CFM size. With the right jets and rods, most any qjet can be made to work well on your Toronado.

I'd argue that decades of Chevy carbs with side inlets would suggest that there is no safety difference.
