62 Starfire kick down ?

Working on a 1962 Starfire. Solid car running .Many parts in the trunk. Did not find a rod or cable for a kick down so I don't know if it supposed to have one. There is a small arm on the left side of trans that moves back and forth with nothing attached to it. For some reason I can not find a picture to identify, even my old Motors manual.

Throw away the Motors and get a real factory-issued Chassis Service Manual (note that in the 1962 model year, you actually need to get a 1961 manual and the 1962 supplement). The throttle valve rod (that may be missing from your car) controls both the upshifts and the kickdown. Do not run the car without it, as the incorrect line pressure will eventually damage the trans.

The TV rod on a 62 is a 2 piece rod, has a threaded yoke on the engine end and a pin that has a cotter pin that locates on the lever of the TV valve. The 63/64 will fit and work and is a one piece rod. Setting the rod is an experience in itself as I'm trying to reset mine on my 63 convertible. Driving without the rod will damage the transmission.

Any 61 to 64 with a 394 full size car will be good for you. Try to locate a 63/64 unit as it is a tube where the 61 and 62 are solid bars.
