67 442 torque convertor

I am wondering if the original torque converters have a part number stamped on them or any other way of identifying one. During the restoration a new converter was installed and I am not happy with it. I would like to use my old one but unfortunately it is in the shop that did the trans/torque converter for me and I'm not sure which old converter in their storage area is mine.

You need to be careful reusing a converter. Depending on the failure of the original trans, you could damage the fresh rebuild.

Whatever crap that was in the trans is also in the converter, and vise-versa. If the trans suffered converter failure, or the trans suffered major damage the shrapnel will be in the converter. Whatever is on that converter will get pumped into the fresh trans.

What is wrong with the replacement converter? If the builder ordered the correct part, it should drive like it did. Your other option is to have the original rebuilt.

If I remember correctly, 67 was the last year for the switch pitch transmission. That might limit converter core availability. Rebuilding your original might be the best option. I’m not sure how to visually identify a switch pitch converter.

Correct. Fatsco has rebuilt switch pitch converters. I paid $104 exchange for the converter in my 67 Delta.

If the switch on the firewall is not setup or working correctly the car will perform like crap with symptoms pointing to a bad convertor.
