Switch Pitch 400 Identification

Trying to trouble shoot why my trans will not downshift at wot. After seeing some of the threads here I guess I have the switch pitch 400. It has 3 wires going to the switch at the bell crank with 2 wires going to the transmission. There is an orange wire feeding 12v to the switch with ignition on a white wire with a stripe and a black wire going to trans. What should I be looking for going to the trans, a variable voltage or is it a on/off 12v? Is the black wire a ground? Car also shifts early both shifts.

The down shift is off at idle and partial throttle positions/on at wide open throttle. You can actually feel the switch pitch change positions in addition to the 2/3 shifts.

The electrical connector on the trans case has two terminals in a "T" configuration. The terminal across the top of the "T" powers the solenoid for the torque converter vanes (the "switch pitch" function). The other terminal powers the solenoid for the kickdown. If you apply 12V to this terminal, you should be able to hear the solenoid click while under the car. If not, the solenoid or wires inside the trans may be bad.

Thanks guys for helping me understand how the system works. Seems like my problem is in the WOT switch. I have the square one (Littlefuse?) Can it be disassembled?
