That is the registration number. It should be stamped on top of the frame near the steering box.
That is, if someone hasn't installed a "fatman" or mustang II front end.
The number breaks down as follows. C= South Gate, Calif. assembled. L= eight cylinder.
The rest of the numbers are sequential serial numbers.
Look for a Fisher Body tag on the front side of the firewall under the hood.
If you can, post a picture of that.
Of course, being a streetrod, someone may have removed that too.

thanks for the info...that is more than i had before.
Do the numbers 141800 actually mean anything...i have no idea where they may have come from...
May from the original frame or casting on the original engine block.
the car has a custom tubular frame and Fatman Mustang II front suspension
with an LT1 Corvette engine.

According to my 1941 Oldsmobile Master Parts List, California built 1937 eight cylinder Oldsmobiles were numbered CL140001 to CL 143240.
Your car would have been the 1800th 37 Olds eight produced in California. Out of a total of 3240.
Good luck getting it through a DMV serial number check.
The serial numbers on that car, which would have been stamped on the frame and engine block, are probably long gone.
