My father's working on restoring a 61 D-88 Fiesta Wagon - presently has the nose off and was working on the front suspension.

Here's what is strange - BOTH front upper control arms (LH and RH) have braided ground straps from them to the chassis. Why?

I understand that the rubber bushings would isolate them, but what do they need to be grounded for in the first place - unless this is some sort of anti-static thing? Anyone?

I don't have a clue either, but my 65 98 has them too.

It's to reduce radio interference.

A charge can be built up in the rubber-isolated sections as they move back and forth that can cause static.
