Oil sending unit

Oil sending unit
Hey I have a 55 olds super 88. Does anyone know where to buy the sending unit and line that goes to the gauge because it seems like they are only electrical now. Is it possible to redo that little copper line?

You can probably use a compression fitting for a repair. I replaced the oil filter adapter on the 54 I had with one from a 63 so I could use a spin-on filter. It uses a different fitting than the 54 so I used a compression fitting to change it.

ok, I’m kinda new to all this but what’s a compression fitting and where do I buy it? So that will make it so I can replace that metal line going to the gauge?

Oh ok great, I was just at autozone and I did see the copper tubing and fittings so that’s perfect. My gauge currently does work but it’s so old and brittle I just want to be prepared for if it goes especially since I’m swapping transmission and moving things around in that area.

The line should not be leaking where it goes into the gauge. Put your hand up under the dash on the back of the gauge and see there is any oil on the back of it. I doubt there will be.

It has a fitting on the end of the line that screws into the gauge. It has been there for 68 years and apparently has not leaked or you would have oil on your carpet. You are worrying about something you don't need to worry about. It is mechanical gauge. Quit worrying about it and enjoy your car.

Hello Super88chris, A Classic Oldsmobile Member had a similar problem in a previous blog (I believe also with a ’55) and another member posted this link for this kit from Eckler’s. The member in need said it was what he was looking for (copper line and fittings). I don’t remember the specific Blog, but I figured it was important inf. to have avail so I saved (bookmarked) the website link. I have a ’54. Mine looks very similar. Hope this helps.
