There's a small machined pad on the black under the #1 cylinder head that may be obscurred by the power steering pump. The last 5 or 6 (I can't remember off the top of my head) numbers should match the last 5 or 6 of your VIN. First you should check what WMachines had posted above to find out if you even have the correct engine. You can't tell much of anything about "matching numbers" from your cowl tag. You can't even tell it's a 442 from a 68 Lansing cowl tag. The best you can do is look at the build date of your car body (which is about the only thing you didn't post from your cowl tag) and then look to see when the rest of the componants (block, heads, etc) were produced.

That's the casting number. You need to find the number stamped into the block below #1 spark plug. If it's the original block it will read 38 (M or W) 194441
