New engine vibrates

I had a guy in St Charles Mo build my #s matching W30 4 speed engine.
When installing the distributor it was installed 180° out.
It ovalled my Gardner muffler.
The engine vibrates. Rotating assembly was balanced.
What would cause the fast vibration.
would the backfire from the distributor cause it.
Lost. He return the job vibrating running bad.

took it to supposedly a reliable shop in union mo. The nutbag dynoed the engine it let loose. Balance job off 16 grams
Possibly totaled the block.
find out soon
St Charles guy is innocent of any wrong doing. Engine wasnt balanced

If you got your car back and the engine vibrates and suffers from NVH, then no doubt the guy you took it to was a jabroni. I'd put a timing light on it and make sure the timing was dialed in before troubleshooting any further.

I believe if the distributor was 180 out, the engine wouldn't run, so that didn't oval your muffler. Who changed the distributor from 180 out ?
Engine "shake" doesn't necessarily mean a reciprocating balance problem. You need to trouble shoot carb, distributor and spark plug wires. Good luck.

Regardless, if he returned the engine to you vibrating and "running bad", he is indeed a jabroni. Why don't you post up his name so other members in the area don't make the mistake of hiring him?

There is a difference between a "vibration" and maybe rough running because soimething is not timed properly etc. Does the "vibration" get worse as you slowly rev the engine hiigher ?

I would check firing order, and secondary ignition components.

Yes, please post the name of the person/place that did the engine work. There are not many engine/resto shops in the greater StL area that claim to know much about Oldsmobiles. I'd like to be able.to steer clear of this guy/place should I ever need anything.

This, it could be a lot of things causing a misfire that could make you think it's an engine vibration.

Isn't a "jabroni" that machine that clears and resurfaced the hockey rink between periods?

I would start with ignition system
wires
firing order
plugs
distributor
Vacuum leak
It could be so many things start with the basics.

Are you sure it is an engine vibration and not a driveline vibration!
