Convertible top mechanics

Looking for advice or direction on where to find reading materials on how to set up and understand the convertible top mechanics in my 1964 Cutlass. The top has never worked since I've owned the car. It has been relatively easy with two people to close and open it and just have never got around to getting the motor and frame to function with the switch. Just looking to do some good reading on what to check first. How to test the motor. How to check the hydraulic fluid etc...
thanks
Rob

Look on utube. There is about anything you need to know on there. I did a pump replacement on the 54 Olds I had. Use transmission fluid. DO NOT use brake fluid because it will eat paint. It is a nasty job because you will spill fluid. Have lots of old rags ready.
