Vista Cruiser Tailgate: Lubes plus Mystery Part
Hi all, I am now replacing the window sash in the tailgate and have a couple of question you may be able to help with. As I have access to the regulator I may as well lube it but the world has moved on since the body manual recommended Fisk Bros 777 Lo Temp. What would you suggest - I think Sil-Glyde or similar might be appropriate? Also for hinges etc, would you recommend a white lithium spray? Also, along with the rust flakes, I found a mystery component in the bottom of the tailgate. It looks serious (pic attached) but I don't know what it is! Can anyone Help? Thanks, Robert Green

Robert,
Here's one man's experience...
In 1983, my Vista Cruiser windows were operating slowly. The white lithium grease had hardened in the 13 years since the car was assembled, so I cleaned it off the sectors and applied a synthetic grease (then newly-developed by AMSOIL). I took the motors apart and used synthetic grease in them as well.
Forty years later, the synthetic grease is still working well enough that the speed of closing hasn't changed much, and the grease on the sectors was still fluid when the upholstery shop had the panels off five years ago.
Cheers,
Gary
