1990 Quad Four 442 Calais For Sale $600
Not Mine.
1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais 442 - $600 (Kennewick)
https://kpr.craigslist.org/cto/d/ken...729257626.html
This has been a fun car, but do to moving I gotta let it go. It's a 1990 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais Quad 442 model. It has the w40 2.3 liter quad 4 rated at 180 hp with a 5 speed manual in it. I rebuilt the engine and got to put a little over 20k miles on it before it decided to blow out a spark plug that was already heli-coiled. I don't have the money or the time to work on it cause I'm being forced to move suddenly. Hopefully this car can find someone new to enjoy it. Call or text me if you have questions.

After the 442-whatever it was, the Achieva SCX W-41 took over as its replacement. For all intents and purposes, it was the same car. A work mate bought one new in 91. That 4 banger would get up and scream for what it was. FWD and all, but it was a fun car. Muscle car? No. Sporty little coupe that was super fun to drive and ride in at full throttle. Yeah.
If you can stomach a little work on this car, it might be fun. Never know.

True, contrary to popular belief 442 went out with a bang rather than a thud ...
The last 2 years of 442 were as you indicate, fun and impressive. This 1990 that is for sale matched the original 442s performance. (0-60 in 7.5 seconds, Motor Trend, September 1990). Oldsmobile pushed it even further for 1991 with the W41. Below is absolute gold, an original ad for 1991 442 touting its actual capabilities vs original muscle.
At the end of the day the last years of 442 were quicker than most 442s.

Sure hope someone picks this up. It's worth rescuing.
Interesting that it has the luggage rack instead of the 3 piece spoiler package. Maybe that's just as well since they tended to crack and are virtually impossible to find these days. The Quad 442 was built out of the Cutlass Calais S, which meant the interior was slightly plainer than the Calais SL and you didn't get the Pass-Thru back seat to the trunk.
The H/O Quad 4 at 180 hp revs out nice and yes they do get (at least) 30 mpg. And this one's got the glass roof making it even more rare. My stable is full, or I'd have jumped on it myself.
Good luck with this sale.

Bill Black Cadillac-Olds in Greensboro NC campaigned one in SCCA when they came out and did very well with Bill Jr at the wheel.
A high school boy here got hold of one in late 90s and had a ball beating up on Mustangs and Camaros. One of the pony punks cornered me one night wanting to know what the kid had done to the car to make it run like it did. When I said the cars ran like that out of the box he refused to believe it. I said go out there and mess with him again and the little white Oldsmobile will hurt your feelings again.
Yup. Not beyond saving. Could you find a head if you couldn't repair that plug hole?

Don't let distance be an obstacle... it's merely and inconvenience. I just bought a 1977 pace car from CA and had it shipped here to MA. Wasn't cheap at $1250, but I have the car I've always wanted. Sometimes you have to put the extra effort in to get to the desired result.

Once that 442 is up and running, I can almost guarantee you'll be the only one with that car at any show you attend. I saw one about 15 years ago on my way to work one morning and have never seen it since. Rare model.

The price to ship the w40 to Phoenix was over $1500. The car has a bad leak which has rusted out the floor pans (see back seat picture). The car does not run. The car also does not have a working a/c which can get very expensive since an R12 car. The paint/body will also need to be redone.
$600 car
$1600 ship
$1200 engine work (min)
$800-1000 a/c work
$3000 paint (doing it myself)
$900 catalytic converters with new exhaust
it adds up quick to $8000-$10000 for an N body. At a point it just doesn’t make sense. Living in Arizona, it was actually the emissions and a/c that took me out.
For the right person who wants to spend that. It might make sense, but to restore this it will be double that at least.

Here’s what I got.
1. The seller rebuilt the engine himself, new rings, bearings about 20k miles ago.
2. Head had a bad thread. He had a helicoil put in instead of replacing the head. Helicoil has since failed.
3. Head now most likely needs replaced.
4. Seller burnt up the coil, possibly ignition when the plug let go. Now car won’t start at all. Seller doesn’t want to try.
5. Seller stated a/c compressor is bad which to me means the whole system will need replaced due to shrapnel.
6. Seller stated car had a bad roof leak and it rotted out the back seat carpet / and I believe most likely the floor as well.
7. seller stated the car does not have a catalytic converter, which out in AZ this means exhaust needs replaced.
8. Beyond that the pictures to me tell the tail of a neglected car, who knows what else is under the pretty surface.
