Wanted - 69 Cutlass W-31 or 442 4-speed
I'm going to be in the market for a car shortly. I've been looking at a couple of 442s already, but I thought I'd put the word out that I'd really like to find a 69 Cutlass W-31 or 69 442 4-speed if at all possible. There was a w-31 that sold last fall for a decent price, but I didn't have the money then. If anyone knows of nice versions of either car for sale, please shoot leads my way. I can't pay top dollar in this economy, but I can put together decent cash for a decent driver. No basket cases or projects, and must be together and not needing major work.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Well, I really would like a real version, but I might consider it. Do you have any pix? Post, send a PM, or you can e-mail to markmind@comcast.net

I've always liked this one quite a bit. Needs a few things corrected on it, but overall is pretty nice.

Tom, I've seen that one listed before, and it is very nice. But that will qualify as "more than I want to spend!" as well. I need to stay below $20k. But thanks for the link.

Thanks, Tom. Just thought I'd see if one was out there and available before I bought something else. I could be happy with any 442 in decent shape, but if I could get a 69, or even a 68 - might as well take a shot.

Oh, well I've definitely seen pretty nice '68s in your price range. While looking for parts for mine, I'm constantly seeing them.
Here's a few:

This one is in your price range. Looks like it needs a little work, but nothing major.

Yes, sold the convertible. I liked it a lot, but I kept finding myself wanting to move into a 442 or W31. The convertible still needed some work, and I just don't have the time and money to get it to where I wanted right now. Besides, my daughter didn't like riding in it because it messed up her hair! LOL
Tom, thanks for the leads. I doubt the guy in Bloomington would come down enough, but maybe the one in Iowa. Neither are far away. I want to keep it at about $20k or less (everyone always wants to spend less, right?). If I'm going to take out a loan, though, I'm going to try to get something I really want.
Agt, believe I have a message from you. I'm thinking about it. Any chance they might move a bit on the price?

you wont find a documented w-31 with the window sticker and build sheet with title history and original drivetrain for this price anywhere.

1970 oldsmobile w31 cutlass for sale or trade
$18,000.00
Will trade for motorcycle or race car or make cash offer. Above Added: Wed May 27, 2009, 4:20 pm EST
This is a real w31 that does not have the original 350 but does have a 350 olds. I have a correct set of heads for it. It runs and drives and stops fine and can be driven anywhere you want to go. The interior is new. The paint is 20 years old and looks ok from 20 feet. The body has no rust or dents. It is one of 1029 built in 1970. I have the brodcast sheet that came with it. Looking to trade for a nice altered or who knows what else. Let me know what you have. Want 18k or close cash offer. I am at the phone number 8-4 m-f or email me.

Thanks Ron. You've got a nice w-31 there as well! Sharp, and they're rarer than mine. I'd hang onto that one if I were you...
Would really like to get up toward Chicago for a few of the shows next year. Would be cool to meet up and have a beverage.

69 Drop,
Nice car. Did you find it down your way? I grew up a bit south of Springfield, and had a junk 69 442 convertible as a kid. Not too many Muscle Olds' in my area back then. I remember a solid 67 442 4 speed in a bronze ish color. A guy a few years older than me had and destroyed a few 442's of various vintages, I think including a 70 W-30. A guy in an adjacent town had a flamed black 69 Cutlass with a 455 and 70-72 dual gate/console set up. And there was one real nice 70 with OAI. Built into a pretty stout street racer.
Oldcar and schober--you guys in town or in suburbia?

It's surprising how many people I have talked to that have a W-31 and they live not that far from me. They are an interesting car and a lot of fun. Of course it's always fun when you chirp the tires just driving at a normal pace, lol. My neighbor always got a kick out of that when we would go to a show so he had to have a shift kit put in his Nomad. It still didn't compare, lol.
I just put a 200 4R in it. I kept the original trans though. Now I can ride the road at 60 M.P.H. without the engine running at almost 5K. And with the kit in it it stil chirps the tires.
I just moved from Chicago and now reside in Florida. Now I can drive the car all year and my bike.

Junior,
I lived northwest of O'Hare airport all my life. Most of them were in Des Plaines. I re-did the car in 98 and have gone to local shows only. I did the Sta-Bil cruise a few years back but other then that, it has stayed local. I would take it occasionally to work when I worked at the Chicago Car Exchange in Libertyville.
I've talked to few people that have W-31's when I needed advice on a rear end swap and most advised me to change the trans so that is what I did.
I see you have aT-37 Pontiac. The only one I have seen locally was when I used to frquent the cruise night in Elmhurst. Nice cars.

That car DID sell and it is now in a collection in Maryland. It sold for what I thoght was alot of $$$. Overall, the car is VERY nice . However, it is not 100% correct---still way above average and pretty rare: colors, post model, stick, steelies, etc. I hear through the grapevines it is for sale for somewhere in the $40's. Until next time......Dave.

1969w3155, you may have seen this car at the homecoming. Guy I bought it from was along Lake Michigan in Portage (sorry, actually Coloma). Original 4-speed he bought to fix up like one he had when he was younger. Did a really nice resto on it, not original colors (but like the car he had previously), but still needs a couple things to be show worthy. But it's really nice and a great driver.
Cameo, this one wasn't from around here, but there are a few Olds around still. Have seen a few 69 Cutlass convertibles, a nice 72 Hurst Olds here in town, a 69 Hurst Olds that I've only seen twice, another 72 442 convertible, and a couple 67 442s and a 66 Cutlass. My new neighbor has a 62 Cutlass that he's redoing. The Olds Rockets are alive and well here. Looking forward to the Power Tour coming through this summer again and catching a few more Olds there!
