Differential swapping
Hello, I am new to the board, but have owned Olds A bodies for about 15 yrs. My question is, will the rear axle from a B body (Delta 88) fit the A bodies (Cutlass)? I have found a decent deal on one and would like to pick it up if useable. Thanks!

No, the B body rears are wider and the mounts are located wrong. The Jetstar 88's are a no also. Center section is the same, but it's wider and the lower mounts are out too far.

Oh well...yeah I was kinda thinking it was just gonna be pure luck if it fit - I have a 70 Cutlass S that I am working on now. Just sold a 70 442 HT and finished up my 68 442 convertible last summer. I love that car! I am the 2nd owner of it...all numbers matching. Its a 4spd with rallye pac and 3.91 posi.
As for the Delta rear...guess Ill leave it in the car and just see if someone is interested in purchasing the car.....

Hi Chris. Welcome to the site! You might post on the "Parts Wanted" board. Someone may have a rearend that will fit. Including your location will make it easier. You could post the Delta also. Even if it's a parts car. Someone may be interested.
You might also post us a few pictures of your cars. We love pictures!! The 68 sounds sweet! That year is one of my favorites. A 4 speed, convertible 422 - Ya gotta' show us!

It is hard to find a rear in decent shape for a 35+/- year old car. You can search around, or check realoldspower member 507olds who specializes in GM diffs (Brian Trick), or go with a new reproduction strong replacement rear. The last will run you about $2000 when you are done, most likely. You can check www.quickperformance.com for 9" ford bolt in rears and also a vendor of Moser who makes repro 12 bolts. A lot depends on what you plan to do. what ratio, etc. A stick car with slicks needs a lot stronger setup than an auto with street tires, etc.
