1968 Cutlass S Headlights

Hello,

I have noticed that my headlights seem to brighten and then dim for no reason. I have replaced the alternator with the factory style external regulator. I was wondering could there be a problem with the external regulator? Also hear a click noise when the lights change from bright to dim when it's on the low setting. thanks

First thing to check are the ground straps from headlight harness to the core support. Clean and tighten those connections will go a long way toward resolving this problem.

Then clean the h/l plugs and terminals. Corrosion causes more of this type problem than anything else.

Voltage regulator could cause this also, but my money goes on grounds and dirty connections.
