71 442 Emmision control system charcoal cannister

I'm stripping down the radiator support assembley to take to the blaster. Everything was an easy removal until I got to the charcoal cannister. It won't budge ! I've loosened the holding bracket. It's rusty like most I've seen. I've even sprayed PB blaster around the sides and it still won't move. Do I need to remove the top of the cannister and go in from there? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I haven't done it in years but there are two mounting bolts for the case under the canister itself.

Here this will help better than i can:

Stripping down the radiator assembly to take to the blaster. Everything came off super easy except this! I have lossened the screw on the bracket holding the can (the bracket is rusted like most I've seen) and even sprayed PB blaster around the sides. I can't get it to budge. Do I need to remove the top of the cannister and go in from there? Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

42 years of dirt, rust and grime. Loosen the bracket as much as possible then try and spin. Mine was hard also.

Unhappy

OK wrestled the canister loose after much effort. Canister survived, base is toast. Where in the wide wide world of sports can you get one of these bases? Does anyone have one of these for sale?

They are still out there on the used market. Have not seen them repro'ed. Put a post in the parts wanted section - someone will have one to sell!

I have one that is nearly mint other than the paint. Bead blasted clean $55 shipped. They are out there and many time for less than my $55 one but not to many left that don't have at least some pitting. I you are interested send me your email address in a PM and i will get you pictures. You may also check eBay, I just seen one on there the other day that looked ok.
