Aronado

I just watched a few Youtube videos about an Oldsmobile Toronado/Airstream RV. The channel is Mav and he calls it the Aronado. I had never seen this vehicle before does anyone know more about it? Sorry but I cannot do links very well to Youtube so...

That thing has been all over the interwebs for several years now. Can't say that I'm a fan.

Somebody ruined a good Airstream and a good Toronado.

Well, I was looking for some opinions and got them. I can't help but wonder what condition both were in before they were put together that way. I personally don't care for it either. I think the dash in particular is quite crude looking. Maybe the Toronado had some severe rear end damage so the builder figured "what the heck, do it." but still...

That is interesting. I saw a GMC motorhome converted to Jaguar Hauler. Same basic idea.

Curious to the airstream patterns in a wind tunnel.😳. Gotta cost 3-4 mpg!

To me it looks like the Airstream is swallowing the Toronado. The car transport is pretty cool.

The guy could have just restored both and towed the Airstream with the Toronado.

Wow that is an impressive image! I used a load leveling hitch to tow a bumper pull trailer with my truck and they do make quite a difference, although with rear wheel drive the goal is not to completely remove the load from the rear wheels of course...

Funny, somewhat related story. A friend of mine worked at the GM Desert Proving Grounds in the late 1970s. He was there when GM tried to recreate this photo with the then-new FWD X-cars (a Citation, to be specific). The Citation was able to tow a trailer with the rear wheels removed, but the car was so badly racked by the loads that the doors wouldn't open. The driver had to climb out NASCAR-style.

Yeah, there is a reason that trucks are rated half-ton, three quarter-ton and one-ton even though they kinda sorta all look the same and they can kinda sorta tow something. I don't think I have ever seen a goose neck or fifth wheel on a half-ton. That citation was an X body car right? It probably didn't handle torsional loads very well.
