rear coil springs

Hi Guys,
I was looking into lowering the rear of my car by a couple of inches. I saw in OPG that they offered shorter spring to lower car. My srings have a tighter coil at the ends of the coil, the ones listed have the same coil diameter entire length of coil. Im i missing something?

Just in general, I'm thinking that what you describe is a variable rate spring. The Spring you describe that OPG has sounds like a constant rate spring. I changed the rear springs out on my cutlass and went with the constant rate spring vs the Variable rate. The ride is slightly stiffer but I prefer it that way. I actually wanted to help the car to stop squatting so much when starting off.

Don't buy anything from OPGI.

Use Eaton Spring instead.

If you want to lower your car, it seems as if you need to know how tall your current springs are/how high the rear of the car sits in order to know how much shorter/lower to make it. Otherwise, you are just swapping springs based on generic information about how high a car should be/how tall a spring should be. You may end up with the drop you want, or you may end up higher or lower - it's a crap shoot if you don't have measurements.

FUN71,

I would think that I could take springs out, measure them, then order new ones two inches shorter. I can see many possible holes in this theory, coil thickness, coil strength, etc. Any light on this subject would be great.

Thanks for your help

Springs are usually listed by their height uninstalled and in stalled. Yours may be sacked giving inaccurate measurements, but better than nothing. Another thing to Chk is the car ride height, the manual shows two spots on/ near the rockers fr. N rr. To measure for ride height.

Moog springs list a ton of springs w heights and rates. Although idk if they have anything to lower 2 plus inches, unless you have a non stock spring in there now that's raised the rear of the car

They have lowering springs for the a-body. In 1 in. and 2 in. it sounds like he has variable rate which wont always jack up the car but help it not squat as mentioned. With a sport type lowering spring they have thicker coils to avoid body roll in the corners so it wont squat as much as well. I installed belltech lowering springs in my dad's pontiac. The ride was a little stiffer but it didnt ride like a boat around corners.
