relay rod or center link

Is relay rod or center link the same on manual and power steering on a 66 442? I'm converting my manual to power! I was told a 67 power steering pump is not correct for my 66. How about a 65? they look the same.Flatlander 442

yes, the relay rod/center link/drag link is the same for power, and non-power steering cars(2 possible sizes, 13/16" or 7/8"). as far as the p.s. pump, did you ask whomever said the pump was not the same, why it was different? i'm thinking that the only possible difference would be the pump output pressure. that can be altered, if need be, by replacing the flow control valve with one from a '67 pump.

I believe the '66 and '67 ps pump is the same unit, exc. perhaps Toronado.

I know there are the two "different" center links- could they make it any harder to tell apart- really, 1/16" diameter difference? WTH?

I was under the impression, perhaps from experiences, that mainly manual steering used the one type and power steering used the other.

And, you know, God forbid they use the same taper, so you can only interchange as a complete setup from (and including, I think) Pitman Arm to idler arm. If the tie rods work on either then I am sure someone got fired for that oversight.

as far as the pumps go, you should be able to use any pump from an a-body, of that pump style, other body styles would still have the same pump, but there will likely be a different flow control valve(higher pressures for larger bodies). there might be an issue with pulleys, too. those pulleys can be a drag to get off the pump shaft-you need to remove them carefully as the pulleys like to distort if you use an incorrect method.
