Hey guys looking for cam advice hydro tapper. The motor is in the shop. Machine work nearly finished. I’m looking for street car. Not overly concerned with track time or Hp. I want it to pull hard and have a very roudy idle.

425 toro block. 30 over
DSS pistons 10-1
Johnson .921 lifters
Edelbrock heads performer intake
Muncie 4 speed
342 rear.

based solely on internet research these are my top choices. Are these good choices . Better options ?

also I see comp adversities for extra money nitrate hardening. Worth it? Do other
Manufactures offer that? Not excited about the 8-10 week wait for that service.

all flat tapper recommendations welcome. Please provide explanation’s I’m learning.

You say you want a rowdy cam, but do you want drivability with the A C turned on and functional power brakes?

My experience is power brakes need around 16” vacuum to work properly. Keep that in mind with “rowdy” cam selection. If you switch to manual brakes, then the issue goes away.

Ok. I didn’t think those cam numbers were that wild. Sounds like you do?

I’m a small block guy so my experience doesn’t translate to the big block world.

Soooo, you want a very rowdy idle. And you want it to pull hard. So, an old (1968-70) Olds W-30 cam, 328/328, .475" lift (P/N 402569) It should pull hard between 2500-3000 RPM's and 6000 RPM's. You'll probably need to change the rear end gears to 3.91 or 4.33. .
If you have power brakes, you might need to add Hydroboost for vacuum.

What Muncie do you have ? M20 or M21 ?
Is your block 45 degrees lifter angle or 39 degrees ?
What carburetor are you going to use ?
Whats been done to the heads ? How many CC's ?
Do you mean Nitride hardening ?

How did you arrive at the cams you listed? What criteria did you use ?

M20
39
750 do also have a Holley sniper ( heard they don’t like the tigh lsa)
heads are standard 77 with a valve job
Yup nitride
Do you have experience w a can of similar dimensions to provide feedback?

criteria is roudy idle/pulls hard/ good for street use.

I took a w34 cam out of it. It was a turd. Idled like a Cadillac. No pull after 3000 rpm. Using that information aswell.
