New guy with a 98
Hello,
I have lurked here for a while and decided to join after yet another Google search brought me to this forum. I picked up a '75 98 sedan last year, 455/400 and the "12 bolt" Olds rear. Interior is probably a 6.5/10 and exterior is probably a 5/10.
It was parked in a barn and I'm unsure how long it sat. I assume there's some kind of build subforum on here and will document the process as the car is about to undergo some pretty drastic changes.
Long story short, a buddy and me pulled it out of the barn and trailered it home. The first thing I did was change the tires (they were all mismatched and some didn't hold air well - 1 or 2 were even bias ply!). I chased some wiring gremlins and still have some chasing to do. Also eliminated a bunch of smog garbage as there were vacuum leaks everywhere and it ran like crap. Also did a fluid change (engine and trans), new battery, and tune up. It does have a parasitic draw so it lives on a tender. The first few tanks, I ran 93 octane with a can of Berryman B-12 and throttle response and idle improved drastically. I also undercoated the bottom side with Fluid Film Black and welded on a custom exhaust (it was rusted off at the Y), using some cheap 2.5" pipe, one leftover bend, and a cheap ebay muffler. It dumps in front of the passenger rear tire.
Anyway, quite a bit more was done and more to come. Looking forward to sharing my journey, absorbing information, and ultimately asking really stupid questions and forgetting where the search button is.
Thanks!

Welcome , One wheel peel . That's a lot of engine ! Looks like a hard top . Like the fender skirts , would like some on my 88 ! really like my big 4 door 82 / 88. Q ? a 12 bolt diff , does that mean the rims are 5 x 5 ? not 4 and 3/4 .

Thanks everyone!
I believe they are 5x5. I attempted to break the internet and put my old '09 Corvette Z06 Welds on it, but the lug pattern (5x4.75) was a little off. Also, I feel weird calling it a 12 bolt diff, since it's a 12 bolt cover with 8.5" carrier. Mine also happens to have 3 snapped off rusted bolts now. That's what I get for trying to be nice and change the fluid. I'll address that when it's spool time.
The interior is a little sun kissed in spots and the driver seat springs had a rough life, but ultimately it's in good shape. It is, without a doubt, the most comfortable car I've ever driven. It essentially has 2 sofas in it haha. Power everything (even seats). I'd say for a few years shy of 50 and a hair over 100k miles, it has held up well.
I'm not sure what that means lol. I had a part time automotive detail/undercoating shop that I closed down earlier this year. So everything I own still gets undercoated haha.

At least your 75 still has a big beefy BOP axle. 76 went to that damned Chevy C-clip design. The thought often crosses my mind to find a 71-75 axle for my 76 Regency and ditch that C-clip BS.

I read some conflicting information and wasn't sure what I had. Your other option is buying a c-clip eliminator kit, assuming one would work in these rears, but that'd probably be worth more than finding an earlier rear lol.
