Cut and Polish

Its that time to Wet sand Compound and Polish my new paint. Its been about 18 years since I have done a whole car.

Now my question is what Pads,Compounds,Polishes and Buffers are you body guys using these days? I know that there have to be better stuff then the 3m Microfinishing compound that I used then.

Thanks in advance
George

I used Meguiars Diamond Cut Compound 2.0 to cut first after I wet sanded using 3M sandpaper 1200 and then 1500. When I applied the 2.0 I was using a compound pan. This was just wearing my arms out so I went out a bought another polisher to apply the compound. I used wool polishing/cutting pads to apply and also to polish. After I cut it I then used Meguiars Dual action Polish. One thing I found out when I was trying cut and polish was that if I sprayed a mist of water on the car while doing this I got a glossy shine than I did without using the water. I then used Miguiars Mirror Glaze which is a Polymer Sealant to finish it off. I was really amazed how it turned out. The car came out with a "mirror" shine on it. I then used micro fiber towels to go over the finish and it removed any swirls. check out http://www.smartshoppersinc.com/ for some really great prices on different compounds to use. Fellow member Ijasond told me to use this product and he has his own paint shop in Atlanta

if its a simple cut and buff i would start with 2000 then 3000 trazac i would use the 3m buffing compound and the dark glaze. start with wool pad for compund and the foam pad for dark and i would follow it with a hand laze from miguiars to protect it . I wouldn't use water while buffing as the pads get soaked and make a mess i would just use less compund jmo. i also wouldnt use 1200 if it has been buffed before and 1200 is more for a recently finished car and is very aggressive . 2000 will cut it nice then a 3000 will leave a nice shiney but dull look and it should buff very fast if you use the 3000 trazac pad to finish sanding
