Frequently, though not universally the aftermarket gears are made to work w/ the 3.08/3.23 #671(ltd slip) or #156(? open) carrier.
You should contact Brian Trick, he can get you headed in the right direction & probably even supply you w/ proper parts.

ok i got a line on a complete rear end out of a 67 442 in a junk yard here, verified, 3.90 gear posi rear end. either way im spending about the same amount of money, so my question is, will the 67 rear end fit in my 69 without modification. is there any difference between the two? i havent gone to look at the rear end yet. what do you guys think? if so, im gonna go get it

If it is indeed a 3.90, it is a P type 10-bolt, not an O type 12-bolt (cover). O type would be 3.91. It is *probably* a P type, as very few O types made it into '67s, especially 3.91s. Not that the P type from '67 would be that bad, because it probably has the 4 pinion carrier.

Hey,I only get about 4hrs of sleep each night,if you want to call it a night.
They starting installing the 12-bolt O-axle in the late-67 cars,& continued to the very end of 1970 production.
The factory GM gears for the O-axle were 3:91,but the Richmonds are 3:90.I highly doubt you will notice .01 worth of ratio.
The P-type 8.2" 10-bolt 3:90(three ninety) will be fine for a mild build, but since it is coming from a junkyard,it definitely needs rebuilt. The 4-pinion posi carriers are a little better, but can still be broken. My friend broke 2 of them in the early 90's,in a 70 Cutlass, running 12:50's.Those posi units can't be rebuilt,& replacement parts for the posi unit are just about zero.
What exactly are your plans with your car? Give us more info on the rear that you found,& we'll go from there.Wmachine will do all the spell-checking & proof-reading,HAHA.

ill have to ask if its the 10 bolt cover or the 12 bolt cover. my car has got a pretty built 455 out of a 68 toronado. at least 450hp, if not 500. its got ported heads, cant remember the cam, but its over half inch of lift, edelbrock rpm intake, 850 double pumper, headers, dual exhaust, harland sharp full rollers. and some other goodies i just cant remember right now. im putting in a TH400 once i get a converter, and my goal is running slicks at the track. i dont want to spend the time or money to get a 12 bolt C clip axle. what do you guys think?
