4/7 swap cam.

Wondering what the consensus is on this type of camshaft. I was able to get roller camshaft and lifters at flat tappet price. To be honest I haven’t heard of this type of camshaft before until it came up for sale. I decided to change valve springs to match cam.
The engine it’s going in is a 455 bored .60 over with nodular crank with .010 on main & rod journals held to block by ARP studs.
Pistons are TRW L2323.060 and balanced to stock rods with ARP bolts. Cloyes double roller.
High volume Melling oil pump with no restrictors in the main oil gallery. Ishihara-Johnson crank scrapers on oil pan rails with stock pan.
Intake manifold is Holley Street Dominator.
Reconditioned Edelbrock 6051 heads.
1.6 gold Crane Cams roller rockers actuated by SpeedPro 3/8” chromoly 9.5” pushrods. Howard’s Cam 514155-10 hydraulic roller 4/7 swap camshaft pushing MaxSpeedingRods roller lifters.
Valve springs are Howard’s Cams 98113-K12 beehives.
Distributor is HEI with MSD upgrade module, coil, wires and composite cam gear.
Exhaust is handled by Thornton big block factory fit headers to 2.5” mandrel bent X-pipe and Hooker Aero-chamber mufflers.
Transmission 200-4r Boss Hog Street Bandit 24-2800 stall #48432 torque converter.
BOP 10-bolt with 3:55 gears and Powertrax traction system.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If they're so great, why do they still make regular firing order cams? Nothin' but hype

Those pistons came over on the Mayflower.
Putting ARP bolts in stock rods is like putting lipstick on a pig. Waste of money.
You don’t have enough spring pressure. Get something with 140 on the seat and 375+ open.
Not familiar with the lifters listed.
And the Thornton shorty headers are going to kill your power. I tested those on here on a 350 Olds. Again, waste of money.
Truth hurts sometimes, sorry.

Correct. Lots of companies jumped on that bandwagon years ago and bought hundreds of those cores.
All it does is move the load to a different main journal. With a split journal crank, you’ll always have 2 cyls firing next to each other. It’s inevitable.

I bought a Howards Pont 4/7 swap solid roller a few years ago (3-4) and just now using it (about to hit track) and over the last year saw a debunking of 4/7 on Engine Masters and funny now Howards no longer have the 4/7 cam but have the exact same part number Pont cam as a STD firing order now which is bit concerning

Well gentlemen thank you for the feed back. That’s exactly what I’m looking for. Good or bad it’s all a learning experience. Advice from those in the know is invaluable.
