Does anyone have any more information on this Delta? It's not something you see all the time, and I do have a thing for the Delta 88s...
Edit: Just found this..

Yeah I posted the car over there too. Interesting story. This came from the Jan 1980 issue of Super Stock magazine- An Olds issue.

VISTABRUISER WAGON WITH DICK GRIFFIN PRESIDING. I THINK. OLDS HISTORIANS HELP ME OUT. IF NOT DICK GRIFFIN THEN DALE SMITH. OLDS WON THE MANUFACTURERS CUP IN 1971 AND 1972 AND I BELIEVE ONE OF THE TWO IS PICTURED HERE. FROM WHAT I CAN GATHER THIS WAS THE SAME WAGON RACED BY JOHN(JACK) TROXELL AND LATER BY PAUL MAYO. JOHN TROXELL ORDERED THIS 1971 ONE OFF WAGON WITH THE RAM AIR OPTION TO JUSTIFY ITS EXISTENCE ON THE TRACK, (THIS MAY BE WHY THERE ARE ABOUT 3 72 RAM AIR VISTAS RUMORED TO BE MADE IN 1972-GEORGE BEREJIK HAS A BROWN ONE) AND THEN DICK GRIFFIN GOT THE WAGON OFF TROXELL. AS WELL AS THE TROXELL BUILT SX RAGTOP IN MY SIGNATURE PIC (ACCORDING THE DOUG BOYCE'S JUNIOR STOCK BOOK). BUT IF DICK GRIFFIN GOT THE SX RAGTOP OFF TROXELL AT THE INDY NATIONALS THAT WOULD CONTRADICT THE LEGEND OF AL SEGER AND DICK GRIFFIN GETTING THE SX OFF THE WIFE OF THE MINNEAPOLIS OLDS DEALER (ASSUMING THERE IS ONLY ONE 455 RAGTOP BUILT BY TROXELL DURING THIS PERIOD OR THE WHOLE HISTORY OF MANKIND FOR THAT MATTER). DOUG BOYCE'S JUNIOR STOCK BOOK, GOOD THOUGH IT IS, SEEMS TO HAVE SEVERAL ERRORS. BOYCE SEEMS TO BE CONFUSED ABOUT DETAILS OF THE VISTA CRUISER WAGON AND THE CUTLASS CRUISER GO SHOP WAGON ALSO BUILT BY TROXELL. THE BOOK INDICATES THAT AL SEGER GOT THE VISTA CRUISER ABOVE TO RACE WHEN INSTEAD SEGER GOT THE CUTLASS CRUISER WAGON INSTEAD. I THINK DICK GRIFFIN RACED BOTH WAGONS BREIFLY. CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG ANYBODY.

Hmmm... wonder how many people rush out to buy a $60K car because they get pop ups on every picture? At least target the product. Pop up some resto stuff, tires or other useful stuff to the reader. Putting a caddy pop up on every picture doesn't send me to the dealer.
OK... The rant is over!
BTW Nice thread!

There is a car on Racing Junk that sounds interesting, but it is too far away logistically and financially for me. It is advertised as '70 with pics of a 71-'72 front end. The ad says it ws an old-time Olds racer. I' thinking of the Waibel-Ingersoll car. Just a wild guess, because I'm not looking to spend that kind of money on another car. Stll interesting. Anybody here know the car????????????????????
#548
If your guess is correct the Waibel Ingersoll car would be the white 70 W-31 originally with KING OLDS on the side then the blue fish scale 71-72 conversion.

Yea, I know that much, but now there is a pic of only the front end in the air and the car looks yellow. I know the Waibel-Ingersoll car went through several variations of year/body work to meet NHRA specs. The ad for the car I'm referring to kinda makes me think the same thing. I know a LOT of cars were updated from year to year, but this guy wants $50 some grand, so I was thinking it MUST be something special. I know to race CURRENT NHRA you gotta have good stuff and it'll be in that price range, BUT used race cars USUALLY aren't $50 grand for THAT kind of car.???????

Wish he would tell us who it was raced by. He claims its a 442 instead of a W-31 which would rule out the Waibel-Ingersoll car?
And this car is a hardtop instead of a club coupe.

Dudes the above car advertised on Racing Junk runs 10:90 in G/stock and that IS FAST, like 1.10 under the index. Nothing but the best parts and already sorted out! If you know anything what it cost to go Stock racing now in a competitive and capable of being a low qualifier, that is a reasonable buy.
#552
Dave, I absolutely know it cost a ton of money to race, and money spits out of the headers every time the motor fires. I still understand about 1.10 under, but I know you can buy used stockers (maybe not 1.10 under) for less dough. I would still like to know more about the history of the car.
My buddy just lost the record in D/S and he's probably got $40k in EACH engine, so I know the costs involved.
Olds' stuff is more than any other parts, so it seems, but I still think $50,000.00 is a lot of money to start running stockers. I know how much Sam Murray paid for his 1972 Cutlass Stocker from my friend Wayne Shipley---had I known it was REALLY for sale, I'd own it. Now, Sam has spent some money and made some changes and has set some records, but he didn't start out at "half-a-hun".
There is no guarantee the Number 1 qualifier will win the race. Not a bad place to start, but as long as your in, you CAN WIN!!!

History of the $55,000 race car
Well I talked to the guy selling it on the phone. The car came from the midwest in 2008 and won a big race in Denver at some point. The guy couldnt remember the name of the guy who raced it in the midwest but he thinks both the first and last name started with a "D". So that narrows it down to the midwest. The seller himself is a Olds racer for 40 plus years and has raced the car since acquiring it from the midwest in 2008. IT is a 70 W-30 with a 71-72 front clip. Lots of fast California talking plus Im a hick who was not a serious inquiry. He was gracious to me though. The seller once owned the black 70 W-30 that Bill Travato owns today. I think the seller sold that car to George Howcroft in 1980 and then Travoto subsequently acquired the car from Howcroft. The Travoto car is not the same car as this yellow car for sale.

About the stockers-price. My friend was IHRA Stock champion 2 years ago and didn't have $25,000 in the car........But also as someone said above the fastest car don't always win as in the end it just becomes another bracket race. Another of my friends has an ex JEGS 63 Corvette roadster built by Worthy race cars that was runner up in S/G at Atlanta last year for sale for $50,000. I think the guy is dreaming for the Olds stocker. Can't imagine there is much demand for that car.

Have you seen this CAR ???
Does anyone recognize this car? I believe it was originally raced in the Illinois area under the name "Panic Attack" Thanks for any help you can offer. I currently own the car but would like to know some history on it. Hope someone recognizes it.
It is a real cool example of an early 70's bracket car.
