Oldsmobile Race Cars
#241
There were a lot of Olds race cars in the Baltimore Washington area back in the day other than the ones that are referenced here----I myself raced one for maybe 30 years up there----that conv left that area years ago --- it was owned by Fred Leland that had an Amoco station there----Bill Bricker had it for awhile after that then it disappeared. Bricker might live in NC now and Fred Leland is driving a real fast 65 GTO from Davidsonville.
What I want to see are the ones that are currently being raced every week and not just at nostalgic and Olds events. I would post mine but don't know how.

Yeah that would be cool.
Maybe someone could start a new TOPIC called Oldsmobile Race Cars of Today and only allow people to post pictures of their own car or cars, and not allowing people to post pictures of other people's cars.
Or we could make it real tough and only allow those who built and maintain and drive their race car to post pictures in that topic, that should make for a very short topic.

Is this the same Troxell?
Back in 1976/77 Jack Troxell built the last two short blocks for the 68 ram rod I was running in E/S. Prior to that I was having Wabiel build my short blocks and what a piece of crap. Not one of his short blocks lasted more than 75 runs before breaking a rod or piston. Jack offered to cut me a deal on price if I shipped him the blown up Wabiel short block, plus another good block with necessary parts. So I palatized the blown up Wabiel short block and a second block Olds sent to me and shipped them to him. I was sposored by Racing Head Service so only needed the short block machined and assembled. Why did he want the Waibiel block? So he could see "Wabiels secrets". Jack said there wasn't any, as it was just a "basic run of the mill rebuilt short block".
3rd ''break-in" run, shifting at 5800, I ran right on the record! 4th run, still short shifting at only 6200, I went 2 tenths under. 5th run shifting at 6800 I went 4 tenths under!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Final pass leaving the line at 6800 and shifting at 7000 I went 5 tenths under the record and broke in to the high elevens for the first time ever, at 11:89. Jack Troxell (The Flying Plummer) Rocks.

The daughter of 1988 NHRA Alcohol Dragster world champion Mike Troxel, Melanie grew up at the races. While still in high school, Melanie received class credit for rebuilding the engine she would use in her first race car. Coming up through the ranks, she competed in 5 different NHRA sportsman classes. Her amateur career culminated in a number 2 finish in the NHRA national points standings for the Top Alcohol Dragster class with numerous event wins and track titles.

I found this fragment hanging on at my old jalopyjournal.com Oldsmobile Race Car thread which is now closed
and which got me banned on jalopyjournal or hamb. There are still a few photos there but most have been deleted.

How do you guys feel about me posting up some AA/Altered pics of Nanook? It was a '29 roadster powered by nothing but Oldsmobile and sponsored by Holiday Oldsmobile in San Bernardino, California and it is bad to the bone. Yay or Nay?
Here's a sneak peek
If someone doesn't like it I can erase it.

From Bob Lawrence's website:
1965: "I raced this 1965 Oldsmobile 442 Club Coupe under both A.H.R.A. and N.H.R.A. sanctioning in drag races at Arkansas City, Kansas; Wichita, Kansas; and Pittsburg, Kansas. It was one of only 736 Oldsmobile 442 Club Coupes built that year with a 4-speed transmission."
