Exhaust manifold to head leak

I should probably know this but the gasket I have to replace the leaking one has metal on one side. should the metal side face the head or the manifold?

It is going to me nice enough in Green Bay WI Friday that I will pick up one of my kids from school in the after noon. FIRST DRIVE OF THE YEAR!!!!

Thanks
Kevin

Don't forget the torch, you may need it to get the top bolts out. You live in a salt state.

You can change the gasket without touching the manifold-to-pipe flange bolts.

"Just" remove the manifold-to-head bolts, and gently but firmly lever the manifold away from the head with a BFS or tire iron just enough to take the pressure off the gaskets. If there are old gaskets, you will be able to push them out.
Reverse the procedure to install. When I did it, I was surprised how well it went.

Since this motor is fresh (6600 miles) the bolts came out easily. I only removed the center bolt and loosened the others. Gasket slide out and new one went in. I was pleased with how easy it was.

Should I be tightening these bolts on occasion? a couple of them werent very tight.

Picked up my son at school and his buddy loved the ride. $65 fill up and I hate to say I may not be driving it as much this summer.

Thanks for your replies and help
Kevin
